Default Placing an order with a dealer who's waiting on allocation

I've come across a dealer who's willing to place my order for a ZR1, but says they are waiting for an allocation to be approved. How long could I be waiting before the car is built?

How many Z06’s did they sell in 2017?

ZR1 allocations are based on a percentage of how many Z06’s a dealer sold in 2017...and they are then released / approved each month at X number per month...or not

Is the dealer asking for a deposit at this stage or will he wait until the allocation is approved to take money?

Depending on where you live, or not, check out this Forum's dealers who HAVE allocations already. Why wait? Summer is upon us and it will still take 6 weeks to build your car from the day you order it (assuming your dealer gets an allocation).

There are Forum dealers who already have the car on their lot or en route to them. Do a little legwork on here first. Here, this makes it easy for you: https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...inventory-160/

I have purchased multiple Vettes from Mike Furman @ Criswell in MD and have sent friends to him as well...great guy and great service.

No one here has a ZR1 allocation that you can just get right away and get the car in summer. Everyone I know (I am on 3 lists and have been on one for a year) has a waitlist.

For whatever its worth, I placed my ZR1 order in January with my dealer who has an allocation for a 2019 ZR1, and through a friend-of-a-friend who knows the ex-step-neighbor-in-law of a GM exec, they are telling me my car is scheduled to be build in Q4 of this year... That means its probably going to be Dec or Jan 2019 before I see the car. If I would have known this up front, I would have waited until next spring when I think I would be able to buy a 2020 off the showroom, but probably still going to be MSRP or maybe 5-8% off - just guessing. Bottom line for me is I wanted the car to be EXACTLY as I wanted with no compromises, so I am just going to live with the wait...

I honestly dont think we will ever see a discount for this car. At the rate of 42 cars/week, it will be a supply problem.

If you dealer is telling the truth that they received written communication from GM that they have a ZR1 allocation, and further if your dealer is going to use that allocation for your order (as opposed to using that allocation for someone who is the owner’s brother, etc), then you order could be accepted for production any time before now and next March — as next March is GM’s currently scheduled end of 2019 ZR1 production.

I guess those who are looking won't be finding then per the above comments. I do know, however, that more than one has already been delivered from several dealers. I'm going to a local Corvette club show at the sponsoring dealer tomorrow and coincidentally a ZR1 will be delivered to the new owner. The name of the dealer's already been listed above. It's not the first to be delivered there.

I'm guessing there are a large number of dealers "waiting for an allocation to be approved". Any dealer can order a ZR1 but odds are they will never get it. You'd better go somewhere else if you ever want to get a car.

^^^ THIS. THE DEALER NEEDS TO HAVE WRITTEN ALLOCATION.
Some dealers are just taking deposits for unearned allocations.
Even with Allocations the acceptance for Build could be anytime between
September and March as all builds through August are all ready scheduled.
There may be Dealers who get a ZR that falls through due to a cancellation etc.

I believe based on the postings I’ve seen he’s delivered 10+ at this point...
