Default Aftermarket exhaust and temperatures?

Was considering putting in the Corsa X pipe in the 19 ZR. Got to thinking of the higher exhaust temps that caused GM to use a different exhaust for the ZR1. From what I was told the temps reach 800+ and they had to go with a different alloy than the Z06. Thoughts anyone?

I share your concern. It was covered in an Ask Tadge response

https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...sed-power.html

The LT5 engine pushes almost a kilogram of super-heated gas through the exhaust pipes every second at full power. The temperature and pressure of the exhaust was actually enough to inflate sections of the exhaust pipe like a water balloon under extensive track testing. We had to upgrade the steel in the system and redesign sections to cope with those stresses. Shields had to be added in strategic locations to insulate things like electrical connectors and half-shaft boots from the extreme temperatures.

Oh wow, good point. I think this is a problem for aftermarket unless they address it

What are everyone's thoughts on using ceramic coating?

1 kg of gas is extreme. I honestly would NOT put any aftermarket exhaust component on my car without that company specifically engineering the said pipe to the thermal capacity of the stock component. You do not want to mess with this, it is probably going to go wrong and you will have a $140,000 bill to pay for.

You guys have to take into account a few things:
1. GM is using their approved tiered suppliers to get the most affordable piece they can.
2. I am not sure that the OEM parts are of the same quality material that the aftermarket uses
3. Aftermarket exhausts and x pipes delete the rear cats, which reduces the temperature of the exhaust as it's not having to push through a second set of honeycombs. This is where the power gain comes from, as pressure and flow are inverse and this is the same reason with more boost comes more heat. Going with an aftermarket higher flowing exhaust will help evacuate the heat more quickly.
4. I tested the Corsa X pipe on my ZR1 and saw no issues with it when I took it off and I have the titanium Akrapovic exhaust on there now and I ran that exhaust on my high HP C7 along with a lot of other customer cars.

In the end, I realize that this info is coming from GM, but Z06s with pulleys etc also make this higher heat and usually the cats themselves are more of a problem than the piping. Reducing the restrictions, reduce the heat.

PS the sound of the Akrapovic and 20ish lb weight savings to boot, is just phenomenal!

What's your price on the Akrapovic exhaust?

I measured 1200F muffler outlet temperature on my Z06 on the dyno.

WOW!
That's still very hot considering it more than 10' to the back of the car.
