ZR1 Stress......

ZR1 Stress......
I was told by a dealer they had some allocations but they did not know when they would be picked up for production, they told me if I put $10,000 down (Non Refundable) I could have one of those allocations. I am also on two other dealers list if they get anymore allocations. I am a little stressed on what I should do. Either wait and hope or put $100,000 down. Is there anyway the dealer with the so called allocations can prove to me that it is a real allocation. .... Thank You for you time and help. Rick

I sure as hell would NOT put down a $10,000 deposit that was non-refundable. What if one of your other 2 dealerships comes thru for you? Then you've lost your $10k.

$10,000 down for what sounds like a secret allocation. So just think you could put down the $10K and the dealer could tell you they learned the allocation is the very last one from GM and your car will be built in a year or so....and you wouldn't get your money back if you didn't like the terms. Also, sounds like you are paying the $10K for the allocation and not a down payment on the car. There are not too many things in this world that I would accept the terms as you have described them. Tell me what it is about the ZR1 that would cause you not to sit back and think that this is a bad/stupid/"insert word" deal on your part and yet a money maker for this "great dealer"?

First, I wouldn't hand them $10k, period - even if that was a down payment based on MSRP sales price if I didn't know for sure the dealership had a 2019 allocation. I understand the dealership would want to protect themselves, if you ordered a car to your specs then walked off, they are left holding a custom ordered ZR1. I fully understand the money down to cover the dealership, but they would have to do their part and maybe call for that $10K went the window opened for the build week. At a minimum, the dealership knows the calendar quarter in which their allocations are to be built, or so I have been told. Where I am located is on the same order preference as Siberia with GM, so my ZR1 is scheduled for Q4 of this year, and that was me ordering the car in January... If I were you, given this stage of the ZR1 builds, I would wait and either buy one out of stock (off the showroom) or if you just want it ordered to your specific specs (like I did) I would shop 2019 allocations (where someone backed out - you would have to move quickly should that opportunity arise) or early 2020 allocations. I think these cars will still be at MSRP through the end of the 2020 year model, but will be somewhat easier to get... Just my uneducated wild guess.

If I’m reading the OP’s post correctly he’s saying they will give him the allocation if he gives the non refundable deposit.
While i I only deal with Mike Furman at Criswell and others only deal with Mike or one of the other “Big Three” dealers it sounds like the dealer the OP is dealing with has an allocation and he can get it with a $10k deposit, no?

OP post is pretty vague. Dealership "had" some allocations. Ok let's say he meant to write has. Some equals more than one and leads a person to believe those supposed allocations have not been promised already. Most dealerships that have "some" allocations also have a list of people that want the allocation. The OP states put down $10K non-refundable. Is this to secure the allocation or is this $10K a deposit on the car and also to secure the allocation? The OP ask is there a way the dealer can prove they have the allocations? Hmm you would think that the dealer would have proven that before even suggesting the unthinkable of putting down a non-refundable deposit. There is a lot of unknowns with this post.

are there actually states out there that allow dealers to keep a deposit on a deal that didn't go through? i know that folks may state this but i would find it hard to believe that individual state law would permit this. however i am only familiar with one state.

I wouldn't purchase from a dealer that requires a non-refundable deposit.

To the OP, there are many Dealers putting through allocations and orders with ZERO down deposits. Some have asked for $10K once the order goes in, so they are not stuck with a custom order that may be hard resell.

I agree they will be hard to sell once the hardcore enthusiasts have been the first to get served and dealers don’t want to get stuck with one. After the enthusiasts are served at sticker they will be “sitting like spruce gooses” until the dealers get desperate like they did with the c6zr1’s. There were 120k cars brand new c6zr’s going for mid 70’s. This may or may not happen here with the c7zr’s

Mr Gizmo, that is not what I meant. Some people will order color combos or options others don't care for making the car harder to sell. That Vert has sold. I want a Coupe M7 Big Wing so it was of zero interest of me at any price. I'll enjoy driving my car instead of waiting for discounts on cars that have been sitting for years
