Summit Point Shenandoah Track Day Report
This past weekend I went to Summit Point's Shenandoah Circuit for an event run by Hooked On Driving NE. This is one of my favorite groups to run with so I make it a point to go when they are in town. SP Shenandoah Circuit is very different than the main course in that it is a very tight and technical course that definitely does not favor big horsepower. Most corners have camber changes which make it very difficult to put the power down without getting in to trouble. All that said, I was happy to be pretty consistently running 1:34's by the end of the event and turned in a best lap of 1:33.66. That is a 5 second improvement over the last time I was there in the C7 Z06.
I ran day 1 on the MPSC2 and day 2 on the Pirelli scrubs. I also started running the wing in the higher angle of attack. It's too bad the video doesn't really show how car gets nearly airborne as it goes over the crest on the back straight nor does it really show how much was I sliding the car around which was an absolute blast. I don't care what anyone says about the FE architecture being at it's limit - you can really slide this car around in control once you get the hang of it.
I discovered on the morning of day 2 that I was rubbing the bottom edge of the splitter and wore a hole right through it. I ended up putting some duct tape on the bottom just to keep the remaining bit of exposed carbon fiber from breaking off on track. The grinding was happening in the Karousel and after that I went to running the inside line which I think was actually faster.
My fast lap is right near the end around 19:30 and it wasn't until about halfway through the session that traffic thinned out enough for me to really start hustling the car. I might post up another session later that was more open and I was doing everything I could to wring the next of the car. Enjoy!

Very encouraging to hear that the car can be predictable at the edges of its performance envelope. RE splitter rubbing: Is your ZR1 lowered from the factory settings?

We lowered the front 3/8", the owners manual recommends a 1/2". Honestly this is the only track where it's been an issue and the Karousel is very extreme case.

Nice write-up! Good to see runs compared against the Z...particularly on a tighter, more technical circuit!

Here is one more session that was a lot of fun at the end of the day.

Nice write-up, I'll have to watch the video after work.
I have been on Shenandoah in a much (much much) slower "24 hrs of lemons" $500 dollar race car and it's a blast. I really loved how you could just launch out of the karousel if you did it right!
Glad you had fun and the ~5 second delta vs your C7 Z06 is definitely impressive!

Wow, what a fun looking course.
The sighs of frustration in traffic... priceless,
The fact that you made such a large time improvement on a lower-speed course is great!
The haters will not like this news.
I would like to get on a tighter track than the likes of VIR, CMP, & Dominion, so that I can work on sliding in a safer environment with less risk of a big off.
Once I got Mike's track alignment done, my Z06 feels much more playful and less binary, especially when putting power down on corner exit. I try to play with sliding in T1, T3, T4, T5b, T12 & T14 @ VIR but lack the stone to try sliding anywhere else, plus I still have a lot of payments on the car.
Are you coming down to VIR again anytime later this year?

In before the keyboard jockeys/roll race disciples nuke the thread with blabber about how much GM sucks and the ZR1 can't hold a candle to the C7Z or C6 ZR1. Either that, or armed with real-world facts from an experienced owner/driver, this thread is so toxic to their arguments that they don't dare to engage...

Here is a Video of a pro driver in a 997RSR ( equivalent of a C6R) at the main circuit. He's on what is likely fresh slicks and setting the overall Pca record of 1:12.
Poor-Sha did 1:14 second time on track in the car on scrubs. Technically first if I'm not mistaken as the first one got mostly rained out? Keep that in mind. Once the rubber meets the road, the trolls will still be quoting Magazine times. And the real world will tell the story. Which is already being told.
Let's see some street car times in this territory..... Anyone.... Trolls..... Bueller?

This old looser sequential shift racecar wasn't even as good as a new GT3 RS, easy.
