I've heard there is sensor manipulation that allows some things, such as full exhaust, etc. Any information you can share on this?

BMW’s Bosch ECUs were untunable for good 3 years when new hardware encryption thats german military grade was first introduced with the F10 M5 and F8X M3/M4. For those first 3 years of the platform, all we had was piggback tunes which is essentially rerouting sensor values to your piggback tune box then back to the car where you trick car into thinking its providing X psi boost rather than Y. You do the same with fuel sensors and boost solenoids. Some of these may not apply to ZR1 but conceptually thats what you do. End result is not so smooth tune where you dont have full control over all the parameters but you let car’s ECU adapt to these fake parameters.

That being said, even that hardware encryption is now history. You can break into the Bosch ecus by drilling on to the ECU itself (just the cover), inserting a few diodes on to the circuit board and reading the hardware key right there which is unique to that ecu. It requires you to ship your ECU to the tuner and obviously bye bye warranty but it can be done.

i dont know if the encryption in this zr1 ecu is of same type. If so, then its going to require a lot of time and investment from tuners.

See my post above for piggyback tune. I m sure there will be a $500 plug and play tune but I highly recommend against it. You are essentially constantly challenging the ECU by providing wrong values. From a software and algorithm standpoint, you may get some tangible changes on the dynamics of the car but guaranteed it will have lots of side effects.

How does the ECU know that it's getting "wrong values"?

I can tell you first hand, that this is very possible. My ZR1 is the only one in the 9s since the car's release 8 months ago, but it wasn't wasn't easy. It has been on the dyno dozens of times testing and perfecting this to make 800whp.

Checkout the Spark Timing, AFR, and Boost PSI, and this time was BEFORE I tuned my trans

I rarely drive mine. Between work and my kids, I just don’t have time. I’ve just been slowly reverse engineering the data system.

LMR, do you have any other vids (or audio) of the ZR1 before/after the x-pipe. It sounds to me like it smooths the exhaust pulses a lot, making the ZR1 sound less like a tractor.

If you look at it from a percentage standpoint, 4% is a modest change.

Sounds to me like the solution to this is the same as the solution to everything. LS Swap it and your tuning issues are solved

You won’t because they have not done it yet. They are just foolish enough to advertise and maybe even take in cars hoping they can deliver in the future.

Don't actually know anything about public key (or private, for that matter) encryption, do you?

Hummm, there must be a secret way that GM is keep from everybody else. Wow if there's a secret way then it's probably on somebody's computer. OK, now I know how to reprogram.. Just get a hold on one of the hackers in China and give them a few bucks for the solution.

Problem solved
