Default Black Is Not A Color,"But A Love Affair"

The used black ZR1 I purchased was pristine for 9,400 miles, but not clean enough. Today, I finished detailing the ZR1 and except for a couple pings on the front looks brand new. 1. Washed wheels and tires 2. Washed and clayed car 3.Vacuumed the interior and rear hatch area 4. Wiped down the whole interior 41/2. Had two beers 5. Cleaned windows and HUD (previous owner Armor Alled the leather) 6. Waxed the car 7. Detailed the engine compartment 8.Washed radiator and brushed out any debris.(You can get your whole hand in there. 8 1/2. Two more beers 9. Mothered rubber parts of the car 10. Removed wheels and tires and washed and clayed rims. 12. Treated outside of tires 13. Cleaned underneath as far as I could reach to wipe down 14. Had the oil changed and tires inspected 15. Now to go and enjoy the car. She is a beast.

Awesome congrats how much off did you get it for with 9400 miles on it?

were you on a list for new?

Ever try the nanoscrub sponges? Once I went to them I haven't touched a piece of clay for years. Just fantastic and if it falls to ground you rinse and keep going.. no kneading it etc etc.

If I ever did black on my fun car again it would be xpel from day1 the entire friggin car..

(Feel free to take a beer break now)

are you ceramic coating it?

what areas got hit with stone and sand? After 9400 miles curious as to extent and type of wear (had my Z06 Xpel from day 1 thanks to this place teaching me the ropes and prior C6 not being done).

Price is confidential, but well below MSRP, Black Book trade in is close. Never on a list, but picked one up from a dealer, same car except low wing, MSRP. Used Mother's new clay/scrub bar. Beer Break. Car was coated with 8 coats ceramic all windows tinted, Valentine Radar Detector stayed with the car, Seller had his assistant drive it to the car wash every week to be hand washed, that's who Amor Alled the leather. After using interior cleaner from Griot's it came right off and leather conditioner reapplied. Two little pings barely noticeable on the front bumper and you would really have to look for them. Radiator takes the biggest hit with little rocks, side heat exchangers a couple small hits. Total added accessories close to 5 grand. Seller owned it four months. Going to add an extended warranty and some time down the road change the tires. Brake wear checked during oil change and nothing to report. Seller had major medical problems and needed to get rid of it quick and didn't have time to cover calls all day while in the hospital.

Lindale,

thanks for the info. And that's ALOT of cermaix coating lol.

I had nightmares when I dropped my car off to have work done at Chevy... nightmares of the detailer soaking my interior with armor all lol. It's the worst. My C6 i bought used had it everywhere. It was the absolute first thing I tackled with a vengence.

black is the best but it's a mistress lol

Default Luv blk

I understand the love affair,....... but after 6 black trucks, 2 black Vettes, and a few other black rides I just can't keep up with what it takes to keep them as clean & looking as good as I demand that they need to.

I appreciate the effort you put forth to keep them beautiful.......

The first thing that came to mind is the batmobile. Too much work for me to keep a black car clean. Two thumbs up for those of you that pull it off.

I took my car to an upholstery shop 30 years ago to get a seat repaired. The owner looked at my seat then squeezed the sides of the seat on the back. Then commented that I use Armour ALL on my seats.
He said let me show you. He had about 10 bar stools in his shop for repair. All the seats were cracked.

He said this is what Armour ALL does over time your seats get hard and then they crack. He said the product contains oils and it kills leather and vinyl's over time.

I now use per his recommendation a MALCO Product called PB2 which is silicone based. Great for your interior. Never use ARMOUR ALL!

After owning 2 z06’s ctsv and 5th gen z/28 all black, Nothing nicer than freshly washed black ride. Unfortunately it is part time job.

For best results for your sanity never look too closely at the black ride after a wash in direct sunlight.

Does ceramic coating cut down on the chore of keeping a black car looking good?

Had my affair with black and you can sit back and watch the stuff fall on it! Divorced her and now when I go dark I love the WGG which looks great goes dark like black but doesn't show dirt like black.
