Most likely the Z06 was heat soaked after the first pull where as the ZR1 was not or not as much. Therefore, the Z06 was probably pulling 6 - 10 degrees of timing and felt like it was pulling a boat anchor.

Dang, would it overheat that quickly? I remember people saying the Z06 would still be good for like 15-20min of track time before needing to cool off....and these are ultra short pulls....but someone with more knowledge would have to chime in here on the technical side....certainly doesn't help it's middle of the day during summer!

The z06 probably started pulling timing due to heat and lack of cooling.

You are thinking about going into limp mode from ECT or Oil temperatures being to hot. Heat soak is different in that the IAT or MAT is 150+ degrees and the ECM is pulling timing to prevent knock. It's easily losing 100+ HP when heat soaked above 180 degrees which is going to happen on an stock LT4.

In forced induction cars (and especially the ones without sufficient cooling), there is a drastic difference between cool/first run and pretty much everything else that comes after it. Z06 happens to be on the extreme
end here due to lack of cooling.

nevertheless, cooling or not, zr1 is substantially faster here in real world conditions.

Shocker. A car with 105 more horsepower is faster!

I know their ECUs inside out (and their software as well) and I know exactly how their timings work under a number of different conditions. I have tuned them, intake, exhaust, and can tell what AFR, fuel trim, and MAF table lookups they have on every rpm value. I have done so many pulls on various weather conditions and logged data for months.

in addition to those m5s, I had 3 M3s, and did similar mods.

Yes no corvette and not supercharger but I know intercooled cars in principle all have the same heat problem. Even gt2rs pulls timing and put it in a track, it wont lap the same in lap #1 and #20 whereas GT3 or GT350 will be far more consistent.

Wasn't his question about experience referring about experience with a Corvette Z06 or a ZR1?? Your answer is NO!
But you put Gt2rs and GT3 and GT350 in the same sentence! HAHA! After reading your comments for a while now I think your experience is mostly HOT AIR!

I'm afraid when you add near 200 hp to the z06 the tables turn then the Z06 also enjoys weight advantages. Anyone in the Omaha/Lincoln even Kansas city with ZR1's and want to test them out my z06 wants to play.
It will be in Lincoln Nebraska till October. Send me a PM!

agree with both. Commented on it there as well.

also asked chuck if they could do it again with the STAGE III aero removed from the Z06. Stage III especially with the center bridge up is like a boat anchor. As well for chuck to check his wing's attack angle.

also mentioned a vbox. Would be interested in the pulls without driver input as a factor. Timed runs don't lie. Saw both the Z06 and ZR jump.

I would expect the ZR1 to put lengths on the Z06 regardless it should it's a molded Z06 lol.

also would love to incrementally mod the Z06 to see what I takes sans pulley ir blower swap to 2300 to hang with the ZR1. Like LTs I Intake and tund etc.

his videos are good his car is a great combo.

I dont tune for anyone, I m in a unique situation. I have computer science background and am pretty much an independent venturer Both at hardware and software level, I probably know much more than any tuners out there but I m not saying that to brag but to indicate I am not talking out of my *** here

Interesting. This is good for me to know (not at the financial stage to own any of those higher level cars...hope to do so very soon...) BUT this is very concerning to me. When I buy a high level car I would hope that the the engineering has gone into engine/cooling and ECU proramming to give consistent performance whether its on street or on track. It's quite conering to me that the car will basically "half limp" itself with the timing retard after say just 1 hard pull.

Would you have to upgrade cooling and then re-do the ECU to prevent these things from happening? Would be interesting to also data-log real world Z06 runs like the video above. Are there ways where you can log ignition timing in real timing while the car is operating?
