And if you had read the thread, you would have realized that had already been pointed out.

Yep, did read the thread. And several people mentioned they were impressed with the "time" after that little tidbit was painted out, so I figured it was worth mentioning again.

I am impressed by the fact Corvette did not try to conflate and mislead. Just like Mercedes and others, I think Chevrolet is distancing itself from the ring time at all costs thing.....

And the C7 Z06 time is not a sector time, and quite close to what a certain somewhat that runs the "Ask Tadge" Forum hinted it was. Imagine that.

As long as your not trying to game the sector times by doing things artificially to boost one sector at the expense of the next I think that sector times are a fair representation of the vehicle performance. On any track it's tough to get a solid lap in when you have to deal with traffic and have relatively few laps to attempt. On one as long as the ring it's much harder given it's length that means more opportunities to make a mistake and more time lost the minute you mess up a lap and have to wait to the next one. Sure it won't "count" because adding sector times is easier and can be gamed but I still think it's an accomplishment if approached fairly. What I'd be more interested in seeing is some of the other vette best sector time laps for comparison.

On the C7 Z06 time, everyone seems to forget that that lap was run just before the race where the car flipped in to the crowd and killed a bunch of spectators. That put a moratorium on ring times and introduced temporary slow zones. The reality is that once all that got sorted the moment had passed and GM had moved on.

I remember A Bash presentation about Nurburgring segments, It is still on YouTube. At 41:40 in the video, an engineer named Jeff Mosher addressed how unobtainable segments can be calculated and he never did that for his segment time analysis.

Also, he went through the segment times in practice with traffic leading to the 2012 ZR1 lap, and I'm pretty sure Mero either hit or came very close to the segment time.

Sounds like sig got scarred of a Z06 and now hides behind the low powered, snob oriented, Gayman or Audi or whatever he has now. A C7 Z06 has *****, big *****, and not for everyone. Sig should just acknowledge his limitations and enjoy the relative safety of a 300 HP European hot rod.

So this is the new normal. It's OK to insult people and then tell them they're taking the insult personally?

Would be great to see the ZR1 run 6:57. Maybe they didn't want to post it after a 520 hp 6 cylinder Porsche ran 6:56?

Stripped and with race tires. Still don't know what else they did to the car. Don't tell me you are the last one to find out?

Nothing stoping GM from doing the same. Unless...

Refer to my people giving Porsche a pass post.

The more focus on Ring times the less useful they become. The greater focus leads a subset of manufacturers (in Germany), to do creative things.

The thing the makes it difficult for GM to do the same is that non-premium manufacturers are held to an entirely different standard than premium manufacturers in the court of the social media.

It typically goes like this. Porsche makes an incredible, if not unlikely claim. Social media response “Porsche are the best. It’s amazing how they keep finding ways to improve.” Few bother to investigate details.

Chevy makes an incredible claim. Many investigate details in a seemingly tireless effort to defame and discredit.

I think this occurs for two primary reasons. The first is that Porsche has long been an aspiration brand. The second is, that after nearly going under in the 90’s and consulting with Toyota on how to improve the quality of Porsche cars and the efficiency of their manufacturing process, Porsche has evolved into a modern maketing genius. They play the social media game exsquisetely well. Much better then Chevy!

You are peeling the onion back and fostering an interesting question of content versus perception of content (aka marketing). I agree (within the Corvette vs 911 context) Porsche may be better at the perception game to push the product upstream in the feeble “premium class” but I am thinking “so what”?!
Sales numbers vs competition…it seems to me Corvette has been doing just fine on content alone. Great sales without ring times for example.
911s seem to be doing fine as well but, at least for Europe, the “911 push to premium/higher price” is sacrificing/swapping the legacy fan base for stock brokers and Russian millionaires and they really dig/fall for the “fake numbers”… so good for them.. but I am not sure that base is as solid as the previous..

I keep happy with just content and value and I’ll go to the best offer…

I get what you guys are saying. GM has no interest in the Nürburgring.
