Poorsha, once again you are showing the community what these cars are meant to do. Keep up the good work busy!

Considering the huge cost difference, I'd say that the ZR1 is darn impressive. It's a heck of a car that more than competes with absolute supercars like the 720S.

Great driving look like you had a ton of fun, but have you checked into how much timing is pulled from ZR1 when it gets hotter ?
I know its not a Z06 drop off, but there are rumours that it still looses HP.... find those and keep up with 720S on the straight and get a better time :-)
Are you comparing weights on a C7 Z06? Both the C7 Z06 and C7 ZR1 I've seen weighed with full fuel were ~35 lbs apart from 1LZ to 3LZ. These were on race scales and not truck stop scales.

I don't have anything to record KR but I really haven't seen a difference in top speeds during the sessions. I do think it will make more power with cooler air so we'll see what Oct/Nov bring for lap times.

Thanks for giving us some perspective on how these 2 super cars perform head to head.
He is a good driver who has been doing this longer than I have. You can tell by the way the McLaren is moving around that he was really pushing it. I expect he will get a bit faster though and we're in a bit of a race to see who will get to the 1:13s first.

He seemed to be putting the power down well when my friend was driving. I really didn't get comfortable enough in the car to try getting to WOT really early and I was also a bit challenged with when to shift the DSG.

I'll update my original post but one small update. I went back this evening and looked at the data from the session where I was trying to stay ahead of the 720S. I had a weird PDR glitch occur where it stopped recording lap times even though it was recording data and video. Fortunately, Pi Toolbox can determine lap times by using the GPS and timing data but they don't show up in the video until I noticed the issue and refined the finish line. It turns out I actually set a new PB that session of 1:14.67.

Excellent data/post!

Wish I could get my hands on a ZR1.

Watched the video after my post above.
I preferred your race line to that of the 720S driver. Interesting to see the periodic lightness/wiggle in the rear of the 720S upon turn exit and acceleration.
And if I were waging a bet, I think Poor-sha would hit the 1:13 first.

Thanks for posting the video and pictures. I really enjoyed them Looks like a blast.
So impressive that you were able to match lap times with the 720. There is a McLaren dealer about 5 miles from my house and I frequently stop to drool at the 720. Pictures do not do that car justice. Wish I had the money. It’s great that the owner is able to afford to drive that beast on track. Can’t imagine what the track insurance is for the day with that sucker.

Thanks Sean, great info from a trusted source! I looked at McLarens, for about a second lol. The ZR is so planted I amazed how easy the beast is to control.

Thanks for the post Poor-sha. Always fun to watch your videos. One thing, am I going blind or did you change out the CC rotors for steel?

.
No truck stop scale. DMV, government scale when registration cars... We do pay duty pr pound car so they are accurate.
I wiegtet mine later on my race scale and it separated less than 3 pounds on gouvement weight and mine.
My friend has identical car as me, mine is Z07 he has steel brakes, so a little diff there.
He use MPSS, i use cup2, so there might be a few pounds there.
He has stock wheels, i have signature SV502

But all in all, mine is lighter by alot....

Thank you for posting this! The review was great, and I really enjoyed the vid. I have always had at least two corvettes in the garage for the last 30 years, so yes I am a Corvette guy - but the 720S is a gorgeous car and would be my choice if money were not an issue. But it is... Now if GM would just get my ZR1 built...

Thanks Sean.

Great video... very impressive driving from BOTH of you. Clearly the 720 is the faster car on the straights... but it appears to be quite “twitchy” entering and in the middle of the corners. NOT a comfortable car to drive (at least not for me)... whereas the ZR1 is very comfortable (and predictable) driving at speed (for me anyway).

For all the extra speed, lighter weight, multiple higher cost, etc I found it very revealing that after all those laps you were essentially still right on his bumper.

I love the McLarens... think they’re gorgeous cars... but my ZR1 is a fantastic car too, and for the money I couldn’t (wouldn’t) make the switch... certainly not to use as a track toy. I didn’t buy my ZR1 expecting it to beat or equal cars like the 720... funny thing is it appears my car is closer than I’d have ever thought.

Yeah, I put the AP Racing kit on after my first track event.

It was definitely a handful when I drove it. I'm sure you'd get used to it but it was very different than the Corvette. It was interesting that the owner also has a 458 and he said that was nowhere near as quick to turn-in.

Interesting viewpoint, Poor-sha. Fantastic post as usual.

I have a little different experience. I find my 720S extremely stable and forgiving at CoTA, where I have probably 150+ laps in the 720S. Unfortunately my ZR1 order got delayed, so I picked up a non ZTK 7 speed car to have fun in the mean time, so that's not the best comparison, but it felt heavy and sluggish compared to the 720S on the same day running back to back. I find the 720S turns in beautifully, but I probably do have pretty slow hands. My old 458 in comparison did have slower, lighter steering, but it also suffered from more understeer than most any other exotic I've tracked, even with aggressive alignment and Trofeo Rs.

Was the 720S on 19s or 20s?

Thanks Doc. I really appreciate your input as an owner that has also tracked both. The owner of the 720S asked me to drive to see if I also felt the twitchiness. It could just be a function of what you're used to I guess. I think it was on 19s (does Hoosier even make a 20 that will fit the 720S?). Either way, you are a blessed man to have and get to enjoy both. Enjoy!

I don't have an explanation. It's hard to fine people that weigh stock cars with stock equipment on quality scales but so far what I've seen is right about a 35 lb difference from 1LZ to 3LZ and from 1ZR to 3ZR. I'm not sure where a 100 lbs would come from, it's not like we're going from power to manual seats.

Wow, you win the eagle eye award for catching that. I have no idea.
