Default The ZR1 is a flop

Motortrend best drivers car - the Zr1 finishes second to last place. it's only .6 seconds faster than the z06 around laguna seca. Every drag race video I've seen of it competing against it's peers it loses.

So is Chevy over playing their hand? Should we really expect a car made by the same people who make the equinox to compete at such a high level?

maybe chevy should go back to doing what they do best - good fun cars at decent prices.

Check out the C&D Lightning Lap. Far from a flop I would say.

Oh, and drag racing? Really?

I don't really think Laguna Seca allows the ZR1 to separate itself, due to the design nature of the track. I think on other courses, you'll see a big difference when the aero can really do the work. In addition, the ZR1 cooling for track conditions in the lower states will clearly be a winner as well. In terms of drag racing or straightline, it's really not the cars intent and design and it has a bunch of frontal aero (drag intensive).

I think GM built the ZR1 because enthusiasts wanted something more, plus they are maximizing what the chassis can do, within reason. Keep in mind, a Z51 is still a great car for the money, so I think Gm does stick to what they do best...they sell a lot of them, and without those sales there wouldn't be Z06 or ZR1.

It's all good man. GM is trying to increase the model options to give every buyer something that fits what they want. Also, this gives us a bigger parts bin to buy from...widebody parts, bumpers, aero, etc. that can eventually make its way onto modded custom widebody stringrays, etc. Wait til these lower end cars are in the 30's or even 20's...people are going to mod the hell out of them.

well, if it's no better at anything than the previous C7's and costs more - that's a flop.

The wide body and all that was already available.

the only thing the zr1 brings to the table is better cooling - which GM should be doing on their cars, anyhow.

Guys, he's just trying to justify his new reality of not having the fastest production Corvette any longer. He'll get over it.

VIR times were impressive. I just bought a '19 M7 Z06 and greatly appreciate the ZR1 parts that are in my '19. I am thrilled with my '19, my tenth Vette, and best one yet! I have zero issues with the ZR1 knocking out faster times....good for the brand!

I was at NCM MSP HPDE in April when Andy Pilgram set new track record for fastest production car in a ZR1. Afterwards I had a chance to ask him how the car was and he smiled and said "GM go it right!!!".
