Power restriction on ZR1 for break-in period?
I have been hearing about a built in power restriction for the 500 mile break-in on the ZR1. For those who already have their 2019 ZR1, can you explain what the restrictions are? Is it a RPM restriction, speed restriction or just how is the power restricted? It has been said that after 500 miles the car will automatically revert back to full power. Is this so? What have been your experiences? My TPW is 12-17-2018 and was just wondering about all this. I always follow the rules on break-in anyway, no exceptions but was just curious. Thanks

I'm not sure that there is any actual "power restriction" built into the car, it's just a recommendation to not exceed a certain RPM mark until you reach the 500 mile break in. The manual explains this along with other suggestions on use of your cruise control, varying speeds on the highway, braking, etc........ all the same as other C7 Corvettes break in requirements ........

My understanding is that it is not a limitation, just a suggestion made by the tach, the same way it does when your engine is still cold. If you decide to rev past that limitation, the car will let you.

Watch your tach when odometer changes from 499 to 500 mi., the redline magically moves from 4500 to 6500.
No hp increase though, just the mere 755 it had before lol.

If it is just a suggestion, I followed the guidance. I turned 500 miles with my 2014 driving back from Atlanta. I thought that this change at 500 miles needed documentation, so I shot a video with my ZO7! As far as break in suggestions, I have always followed them as I do not want to regret future problems in the future.

New Vehicle Break-In
Follow these recommended guidelines during the first 2 414 km (1,500 mi) of driving this vehicle. Parts have a break-in period and performance will be better in the long run.
For the first 322 km (200 mi):
. To break in new tires, drive at moderate speeds and avoid hard cornering.
. New brake linings also need a break-in period. Avoid making hard stops. This is recommended every time brake linings are replaced.
For the first 800 km (500 mi):
. Avoid full throttle starts and abrupt stops.
. Do not exceed 4000 rpm.
. Avoid driving at any one constant speed, fast or slow, including the use of cruise control.
. Avoid downshifting to brake or slow the vehicle when the engine speed will exceed 4000 rpm.
. Do not let the engine labor. Never lug the engine. With a manual transmission, shift to the next lower gear. This rule applies at all times, not just during the break-in period.
. If equipped with a dry sump engine (Stingray with Z51, Grand Sport, and Z06), the initial oil and filter change must be performed at 800 km (500 mi).
For the first 2 414 km (1,500 mi):
. Do not participate in track events, sport driving schools, or similar activities.
. Check engine oil with every refueling and add if necessary. Oil and fuel consumption may be higher than normal.

Congrats! Yes, I think it matters and I would recommend just following the OM.

1) The ZR1 is not dry sump???
2) Engine oil must be changed 3x in the first 1500 miles? Presuming the 1st is the switchover from break-in oil?

The ZR1 is dry sump. Change the oil at 500 miles and then again after 1500 miles to 15W50 if you are going to the track.

- I will be tracking my ZR1, but most of its mileage will be on surface streets. I've read GM's fluid change recommendations for track use, but I'm not sure what to make of them for infrequent track use. Why not use the track-recommended oil for street use (In SoCal if weather is a concern)? I use the same oil and brake fluid in my blown Z4 MC and I run it very hard on the track. The only thing I change are the pads.

Well i didnt feel any power restriction. My car was about 100 miles and i did wot . The rpm reached 6.5k. So i dont know why they told u about the restriction.
And something weird happened before couple of days. When i shift to P i got message saying shift to P. I disconnect the battery and it disappeared. Now my car almost 1700 Miles.
