I wonder why they didn't use the PDR video. It would have been much more informative about what was happening on the track Vs the camera locations they did use. Could have seen speeds, G level being pulled, gear selected, rpms, steering angle and throttle/brake application. Just because you can hang cameras all over the car doesn't mean you have to.

Edit: The ZR1 needs dive planes and a bigger wing to really put power down. I wonder if any of you track guys have considered putting a bigger wing. Part of the success of the ACR extreme was the dive planes and giant wing. If you think the acceleration will suffer, just do simple bolt on mods to the ZR1 where you put down over 800rwhp and call it a day with that big *** wing. Prob beat all the cars on the track and be a good race for a GT2RS.

Thank you for posting. Made the hair on the back of my neck stand up a little, being camera angles that very closely approximate the in-car view - and how much faster the ZR1 is entering turns than my supercharged Z4MC. I hit over 150mph on Willow's front straight, seems like the ZR1 might be doing 170 there. It's nuts.

That lap was the hot lap they used for the official time printed in the magazine. I hand timed it at 1:23.68. Hot lap starts at 1:38 but there is a problem.....
At 2:23 Randy basically drifts through the turn with opposite lock. I don't know willow that well but it's nearly impossible that this was the fastest way through that corner. He lost a considerable amount of time there.
I have confidence in Randy's credentials and opinion, but that lap as shown was not an accurate depiction based on that one corner. I don't know if they did all the drifting before hand and wrecked the tires or if maybe the tires were bad to begin with, but that was a huge slide. Maybe they edited in one of his impression laps instead of acrual hot lap footage. These are the gray areas where magazines can show bias. Poorly inflated tires, wearing them out before the hot lap etc. There are a number of small things you can do to intentionally sabotage lap time. Controversy sells magazines, and manufacturers pull strings.
I haven't seen the lap from the other two cars but I bet that GT2 didn't drift through there. I have encountered one turn where a very small four wheel drift was beneficial. This slide was too big to be that.
Calling it like I see it. No dog.

They often splice in different drone footage and even different video from different parts of the day to get the video they want for the channel. The only way to really time one of Randy's lap is from an in car camera with no editorial splicing if you want to be semi accurate with a stopwatch. I don't think you will see Randy drifting a car with the tail out for his fast lap attempt......But it does look impressive on youtube. Thanks a lot Top Gear, lol.
If Motor Trend is going to document a timed run they are very precise and used very high quality timing V-boxes, etc for an accurate time and will only publish a complete in car video lap with no editorial splicing. Just my opinion of what is going on.

I wouldn't bet that the video you saw was the actual timed lap they report. The creative photo editor at Motor Trend calls that "artistic freedom"......

That drift was during the hotlap, I would bet on it.
We've seen some GM performance cars have trouble putting down power at willow. I don't remember them specifically but I think there was a quote from a higher up saying their mag shock setup was not very good for willow for whatever reason. That looks to be the case here. That or the tires were shot. I can't imagine a sticker set of MPSC2 behaving like that.

I agree that they use proper timing devices. There official time was 1:23.7 so the timed lap in the video is accurate for what they used. You can time it from the time he crosses s/f until he crosses it again. One view is in car, one is from trackside, but the time is synced perfectly with the time they claimed. This leads me to believe all of the clips are from the hotlap. The Audio also syncs up, they just edit in various clips of different camera angles of the same lap synced together. This is not uncommon, for all clips to still come from the same hotlap. It's fairly easy to sync them all and create a more visually appealing video. I honestly think that slide was from the hot lap. That ZR1 was not putting power down well judging by the amount of counter steer Randy had to use almost constantly. Pretty much all the other clips are clearly from the hotlap, it wouldnt make a lot of sense to only edit in a couple of non hot lap clips that would throw the timing off.
That drift was during the hotlap, I would bet on it.

Looks like the slide was mid corner so it wasn't a function of not putting the power down. More likely just a tad too much brake or too late on the brakes?
