Anyone with any time in the corvette world should NOT be believing the "new" ZR1 will be any different than anything EVER said by GM in the past. GM is not Porsche. When Porsche says we are only building 500....they only build 500. They have done this over and over. Thats why they hold crazy value. On the contrary I remember the ZR1 of the 90's and everything GM said....none of it was true. It went from only 500 to over 5000. But all the first guys to buy it continue to spew all the propaganda GM states. It has NEVER been true about the ZR1 or the ZO6. We all thought we had something special, collectable, valuable, not to be outdone........then GM throws all those guys under the bus and builds more of them or variants of them...example the grand sport looking like a Zo6. If the demand is there GM will build as many as they can sell and anyone who paid over sticker for the super rare 1 of 500 one year only...get thrown under the bus ....again. They devalue all their products this way and have been for years. This ZR1 is awesome but it is kinda of smack to guys who paid 118K for a Zo6 that overheats on the track. So here pay 140K and it won't overheat! Typical GM.
All of us felt we were the special ones....for a while till GM turns the tables. Everyone keeps talking allocations, demand, availability, and price like it matters..........It only matters for a little while......then all you get to say is the journey to getting it and you had one of the first ones....like what has happened to many of us more than once. I don't think any of the salesman actually know because they are lied to to be motivated to hold the line. In 2009 guys paid 20K over sticker for a ZR1, in 2012 and 2013 they couldn't give them away and some were 18K under sticker had flat spotted tires and needed batteries from sitting so long. Buy what you like and pay what you are willing to lose, there are no investments with GM products. I love corvettes and owned one since I am 18 (mid 50's now) but that is the real history.

^^^ There are so many false assumptions in your post that it is hard to list them.
Coming from a previous owner of a '95 ZR-1 and a current owner of a '10 ZR1.

Good luck getting one of those 1/500 Porsches for a price remotely close to MSRP. Last time I checked old Vettes were bringing as much or more than old Porsches at Barrett Jackson... you’ll take a bath on any new Porsche you bought in the last 10 years too based on what you had to pay for it.... not MSRP. BUY a GT2 RS if you can find one for only 100 grand over it’s $350k sticker. Not sure you,ll get your money back in 5 years if you drive it.
I am very happy after all these years GM stepped up so much on the C7. There is something for everyone, and the current ZR1 is on top. But the past speaks volumes and it will not last just like every other ZR1, Zo6 limited number vette. Thats all I meant. I am happy the car was made by GM but not under any illusions or believe any predictions. Most all of us know, its about how much we are going to lose. But that thought doesn't help us buy a depreciating liability!!!! LOL We just want to!
Good luck!

I agree. Cars are not usually investments. We just bought a GT3RS for MSRP. Never sat in it or touched it. Had it up for sale before it was delivered. Sold it for 50K over sticker within 2 weeks. We never intended to be an owner of it. But it was rare, and an RS. Many of those 500 cars usually do go for around MSRP to the first guy who has a purchase history with Porsche. He either makes out or flips it. But I agree most go for way over sticker. But those hold stupid value. I am no Porsche guy, and actually hate their boutique business model. You will lose on any regular Porsche like a base corvette.

You did well on the GT3. But as you said it was a fortunate situation to get a high demand car for sticker. My experience is that those cars if sold at MSRP, are done so for special relationships.. ie.. customer bought other less in demand cars and or spent a ton in service dept (or are actually related.) The dealer that sold you that car for sticker surely knew he could get more for it himself. I saw a GT3 RS in a showroom in Scottdale for 100k over. Dont know if they got it.. but were asking. Lets not forget about the sales tax issue when flipping too. It can eat into what appears to be an easy profit in a hurry. I agree mainly with your comment that cars aren't usually investments, let alone good ones. Anyone buying a ZR1 or virtually any other car with the idea it will make money is likely to be disappointed. ZR1’s should be bought for one reason IMO: to deliver joy... and I’d say they do a darn good job of that. Actually, all Vettes do.
I enjoy the hell out of my Vettes and they are usually priced within the joy factor for what they are. If I am driving it, over sticker does not work in my brain. No one wants to hear about it 3 years later either.
Good luck

GM should not allow their dealers to mark up over list. Would minimize some of the early market shenanigans dealers play.

well actually if future allocations of C8’s are based on prev sales, then it does. Besides Rick was “under-allocated” ZR1’s because of his % of Z06/total Vette sales during the period of time GM used. He went into the ZR1 pre sale period honestly believing he would qualify for many more ZR1’s than he got. If some guys got offended by that, it bothered him I know... he’s a very competitive guy as well. It’s not just about the money to him. It has a lot to do with how many Vettes he can get into the hands of customers. My take on the subject.

Heres the thing if he got a allocation because of zo6 sales then the first people to get a chance at zr1 should of been the guys that got the zo6's from him at full msrp. Then he gets full profit from both zr1 and zo6. How could that be wrong. Oh well im over it moved on.

Why would any dealer not make money on a car? That makes no sense (no pun intended) He should make money. Or go out of business.

If that was the last ZR1 I wouldn't buy from him! I contacted him two, repeat two years ago & asked him numerous times through email, texts, left him voice messages (because you know he's Mr. World, he's busy and cant answer his phone) about being his number one allocation (before he even had a list) and he assured me he could do that. Around release time, what do you know, he started giving me the run around, ignoring me, etc.

Just getting to this thread and will be spending more time on the forum, but for more fun and productive things

I appreciate this post by someone trying to help, we are doing all we can to be creative guys, shoot there is a dealer close to me that magically just got a ZR1, not sold, in stock and asking $10,000 OVER STICKER!

I started contacting you December of 2016 about being your #1 ZR1 allocation. You told me you didn't even have a ZR1 allocation list made yet & Your reply was you could do that. So lets not make like I came to you at the 11th hour for a car. I should of been your number 1 allocation. If you want to air it out, we can. I have old emails & text messages. You're the only corvette dealer with a shat show on his hands dealing with the ZR1 allocations. All the other dealerships aren't having issues, only you. Gm should strip you of all your allocations because you can't handle it.
no that is not the story or situation. we have been dealing with a lot of games on ZR1, It pains me not having enough when we needed it. This car we bought form another dealer just for an allocation. Some smaller dealers have been getting stuff before us and simply bizarre and if things don't move as fats as people want , they think we are ignoring them, not at all. Like I said man, a lot behind the scenes I care not to air on the forum, much appreciated

Gm didn't blow anything! You knew how many ZR1 allocations you were getting back in December. You knew for every two Z06's you sold you get one ZR1 allocation. Gm sent you a letter stating this last December before production even started in March. You only got 13 allocations. How did GM blow it & not you?

You had several guys but no list? That doesn't sound legit..
