Sean, I know it is little consolation at this moment, and I suspect you are beating yourself up
on this situation more than you should be, but it is aparent how much respect you have from members on this board. I know I speak for everyone in telling you we cant wait till you are back at it posting PDR’s again. Go get em tiger!

I would think it would be faster turn around and cheaper overall to by a spec car already done. There are T1 and T2 older cars and GT1 and GT2 cars out there. I would not waste my money or time (which is money too) rebuilding this. Get something already built and go. Plus whatever it is will be faster and be something you have to catch up to. Best of luck.

Thank God and Chevrolet the frame did its job, and you did what you could and most importantly, that you are OK.
I really enjoy your insights and PDR posts which drive the trolls and theory experts crazy. Good on you Sean and I hope you can share what makes it a learn-able experience car wise, track wise and other traffic wise once the dust clears and you have more answers than questions.

Very sorry to read this news and especially glad that your are OK. I was afraid of something like this when I read your other post about a track only C7 and that due to circumstances you would no longer be tracking the ZR1. I hate that these are the circumstances.
I don't know of any non-pro driver that afforded the rest of us the opportunity you did to see what the ZR1 is capable of. You are an advocate of the sport and a very respected driver by me and many others on this forum. Your affinity for helping others learn how to track our cars and being a humble friend to us mere earthlings makes us all share in your grief. Glad I got to ride in the monster my last trip to VIR. When you are ready to share details of the incident, we will be all ears to once more learn from you. The tires/wheels, which look like MPSS, make me doubt the incident is track related.
If there is anything we can do to help, just ask. Many of us owe you big!

Sorry to hear about the car. The good news is everybody is OK. I was wondering why you had started the other thread about building a track car. Since the car is being auctioned by State Farm I assume the incident happened on the street. Maybe a chance to repurchase and send to a race shop for conversion to a track car?

We haven't met yet (at least I don't think so) but Summit is my home track. I've been working overseas for the last few years but will be back in the spring and looking forward to getting back to DEs. If you car isn't ready yet and I'm out there, you are more than welcome to have a session behind the wheel of my 16 C7 Z06 M7. Thanks for all the YouTube videos. You add a lot to this community.

Again thank you all for the kind words and support, I'm floored. I've really enjoyed being a part of this community through the Z06 and ZR1 and it's this community that has me determined to stay with a C7 in whatever I do next.
Conventional wisdom is always not to discuss these things publicly but I'll give a brief description of what happened now and then like I said, I'll try to break it down more so others can learn from my incident later. I was at a DE on Shenandoah and was mostly there just to hang out with my friends. I drove up on the Super Sports and was taking a guest for a ride. It was a cool morning and I thought the tires had enough heat but I crested a hill and had too much throttle which spun the tires and turned the car. There was no room or traction to save it and I hit the wall.

Michelin's are the most dangerous tires cold. Sorry to hear, and really appreciate the life lesson that many of us can hopefully take away from it. I've made my fair share as well.

yes Dave...and I’d add the list of off track excursions by professional drivers on not fully warmed up tires is too long to list.... many of them at speed but also happening either before the race started, during yellow flags, or slow speeds exiting the pits. Common denominator: uber powerful cars... it’s the excitement that draws us all to them. Danger just comes along for the ride. Good luck with the new build Sean....and mostly, so happy no one was injured.
