On my previous open trailer the tops of the fenders were low enough the Corvette's door would open over the fender. I had about an inch clearance. When I purchased my Big Tex replacement trailer it had removable fenders but being a steel trailer they were heavy and unwieldly so I had the fender dropped an inch and a half so the door would open over it. The 7K trailer weighs 6660 lbs fully loaded and even thought the axles bottomed out on the frame while running over some bumps the tires never hit that lowered fender.

I have the same trailer as blackbird, an 18 ft Aluma tilt with removable fenders (8218 model). I bought the optional front guard for an extra $500 with help keep road debris off of the car. With the fenders off you can open the doors fully. With the car loaded there are roughly 3 inches to spare on each side. I use T hooks and 2 inch straps in a X pattern to secure the car down. I built ramps out of 2x10s to help the splitter clear.

I don't have a ZR1 but I have a ZR2

I winch my cars in my trailer I am by myself a lot that way I can watch them coming in and out. If you have the right kind of trailer it is no prob!!!! I have a Lark racing trailer extra long ramp no problem with clearance also a dove tail in the back of the trailer is handy. I guess I am saying pick the trailer wisely.

It is a Lark Trailer made in Douglas GA. It is their 8.5 + 24 Deluxe Race Package #2. I special ordered it and added a few of my own ideas to make it a little more comfortable on long race or show days.

Beautiful. Gets the job done and the ZR1 looks like it supposed to be in there.

What's your tow vehicle of choice and hitch setup?

I like to winch in as well and have for awhile even though the escape door on the current trailer let's you get in and out easily. I also like e-track for tie down. Never had it before the current trailer and I will use it from now on. Escape door access makes tie down a cinch!!

I pulling mine with a Z71 4WD Suburban for now, I have been sorta looking at pickups again been that route also. I wish I would have ordered e-track when I ordered this trailer. I am considering adding it. The D ring tie downs work ok, I haven't had any problem using them but love the e-track!!

Well I have several kinds of tie downs. I use some 3in ratchet type that you can run thought a loop in the end, then the ratchet has a hook that hooks directly to the D ring. I tie to the lower wishbone arm in the rear. In the front I tie to my toe hook on one side and a wheel spoke on the other. I also have a pair that goes over the tires they work nice also. I am going to install the E track as soon as I get the time to do it. I haul my Harley in there also I have a removable front wheel chalk and D rings for 2 bikes

I would like to find the tie downs that go over the tires but not sure if anyone makes them big enough for the ZR1 tire and rims.

I bought mine off Amazon they fit the big tires great and they are very well built a little bit pricey but great product. They are Vulcan adjustable loop tie downs with snap hooks.

Lots of nice looking trailers here but other than picking up the car half way across the country I'd probably drive my car wherever I want to bring it. Has anybody rented a U-haul for a 1-way trip or are the U-haul trailers with the ratcheting tire straps no good for this type of work? I saw in another thread a guy plastic wrapped his C7 and loaded it onto a u-haul trailer backwards -- not a ZR1 but other than ground clearance should be pretty close in dimensions. https://www.uhaul.com/Trailers/Auto-...ort-Rental/AT/ I have a 3/4 ton diesel truck so I can tow any car trailer, if there is a better rental trailer out there I'm open to suggestions. I'd actually prefer enclosed so I could potentially tow my motorcycle as a trade-in and then tow the car back protected from those down-south-thunderstorms but a google search of my area only showed semi-truck trailer rentals, u-haul, and new trailer dealers.

I would ask around. If you are close I would rent you my trailer. Nothing like hauling with good equipment. Makes the towing experience a much more relaxed experience. Especially that far. I am just outside Philadelphia, PA.

I saw a Uhaul trailer debacle at NJMP in June as I was leaving the track with a new GT3 on it which look like it had sustained damage to the splitter and underside behind the front wheels. It's a no go for me. Other's may have different experiences but it's not something I would ever do unless i just didn't care about the car or truck I was towing on it. Best of luck with whatever you choose.

I have an ATC 20ft open with tire rack. Trailer is 82in between fenders. Also my door clears the fenders which is great. Comes with 7ft ramps but need to use race ramps. Trailer is super light. Used it to trailer my car to Watkins glen 2 weeks ago with my 2012 suburban. Over 400 miles each way and didn’t even notice it was back there other than climbing a few hills.

Deck is 82" between the fender and the front cameras allow me to bring it up and center the car.

You mean like this
