Default #3 C7.R podiums at Sebring in its last appearance there

Well although things could have gone better, Garcia, Magnussen and Rockenfeller still brought home a bronze in their last outing at Sebring in the supposed “old school” FME C7 Corvette with its 5.5L NA pushrod engine . Finishing behind the 2nd place carbon tub twin turboed FORD GT and the 911 Porsche (whose engine now sits midrift instead of behind the rears).. so while I’m excited about Corvette’s venture into the future with the new C8 car, I can’t help but think...” you know what?... old school ain’t so bad after all”.. Congrats Team Corvette for a valient effort as always.

The way the rules are, they've been stacked against the Vette for years. While manufactures like Porsche and especially BMW, get the benefit, Corvette gets choked off and weight laden.

Respectfully that is not true. The only car currently lighter than the Corvette is the BMW. All 5 brands that compete in the IMSA WeatherTech GTLM Class are BoP'd using a number of parameters and all have proven capable of winning races. Corvette Racing are current 3 time series champions because they can string together a season of results.

The Vette Team execution has been pretty hard to match for years now. Attention to detail and consistency. I also agree that BoP does a pretty good job of equalling the playing field. The key areas it regulates are engine type/displacement, rpm, boost, hp, weight, fuel capacity and fuel delivery speed. It’s light years away from “bring the fastest thing you have”. If that were the case, the GTLM cars would likely be running faster laps than the also restricted Prototype cars. The GTLM cars are only making about 500 hp.

At 15 min Doug Fehan (at Sebring) describes what the BoP (Balance of Performance) does... right after that he mentions he’s sorry that Ford will not be racing their GT in the IMSA GTLM series next year. Doug also said that F1 driver Kevin Magnussen has been granted a contract waiver by HAAS to race with his father Jan for Corvette in a future major GT RACE...presumably that would be either LeMans 24hr or Daytona 24hr. https://www.corvetteblogger.com/2019...bring-weekend/

Sorry, a little late on this one, new member here! I would like to see them let ALL cars compete without intake restriction. Those little quarter size intakes they use on the C7 R is nonsense! It would be cool to see one race with no intake restriction but the same amount of fuel. Mileage, horsepower, efficiency. Just let it play out and see who wins!

. Interesting idea. But the team with the most money would win every time. As it is now, GTLM is too expensive for most manufacturers to justify. After just a few years, Ford is saying goodbye to GTLM after this year and Ferrari is all but gone already. So we’ll watch Vettes race Porsches and BMW’s. It was impossible for a Texas Ferrari dealership (Risi) to foot most of the bill. The lowly GTD class is actually more viable than all of them and its the most like stock. Maybe thats where we end up after all.
