Seriously, that concerned with saving a few bucks on these cars? Just giving a hard time since this seems beyond silly, but JMO.

The price is really not the issue here. There were several other threads preceding this one about the changed part number on the GM recommended filter for the LT5 that you may not have read. The engine requires a filter with a 22 psi relief valve. Many filters that fit the engine do not have this. ~12-18 psi is much more common. A GM service bulletin was sent out stressing this 22 psi feature is a must. The new filter, part number 12696048 is slightly smaller and lighter and appears to have some plastic internals. The filter described above is no longer made and is becoming difficult to find. When this remaining stock is gone...my understanding is, thats it. I was alerting forum members interested to where they were still available. I totally understand your reaction: saving a few bucks on a filter for a $150k car is beyond ridiculous. It was an issue of availability.

Thanks rinaldo. I was aware of the 22psi requirement but didn’t know the A/C delco was being discontinued.

The LT5 crate engine specs warn about relief valve below 15psi.

I use a K&N Gold in my LS Callaway, but decided to stick with what GM prescribed for the LT 5.. K&N and some other premium filters have 11-17 or there a-bouts relief valve pressure springs. Also GM emphasizes that its important the filter have the proper “flow characteristics” for the variable pressure oil pumps used now. GM says this filter is designed for the needs of the engine. Theres are lots of opinions on what’s the best filter out there... just like everything else. No offense, but I’ll take GM’s advice on this subject.

The K&N 1017 Gold

claims to be suited for the LT5 in their cross reference giide... yet check out the relief valve PSI: 11-17... this makes me leery about trusting other brands for the LT5 as well. Even if they state a 22 psi relief valve spec, what if the flow rate is different than what GM calls for? Why take the chance?
