Default New found respect for REV MATCH

Just got back from Spring Mountain. I was issued a M7. I, at first, thought of the Rev Match feature as a crutch but I have to say with any new car (to driver) one has a learning curve. The ZR1 has a lot of power and torque so during that learning curve of synchronizing rpm/throttle there is going to be some strain on the driveline. The Rev Match does a great job of those duties and allows the driver to focus on the other important aspects of a new track. In summary, I like it although I do have an A8. The A8's at the track did seem to pull slightly away from the M7's. But both are pretty darn good even at field elevation of 2800' and temp. of 107. Yes, it was hot but the cars ran just fine.

Oh yeah, they put 100 octane in them.

And on the street when you arent braking or braking hard enough to get the brake pedal down far enough to even reach the gas with the heel/side of your foot, its a lot quicker that double clutching.

I love rev match. Yes, I can heel toe - but man it is nice.

I have friends that say they will never use it. They know how to heel toe. I am like - whatever,
D.

They taught us proper heel/toe techniques at Spring Mountain too. But Rev Match is awesome.

I agree it is a very nice feature and allows those not comfortable with Manual shifting to enjoy the M7 Tranny

Ooops, I left out the heel/toe part for my comparison. Yes, I love heel toe in my C5Z and I did do the heel toe at Spring Mountain for a couple of runs (not particularly well, I might add) until an instructor got in and said we don't do that. I then discovered the beauty of the Rev Match. It definitely has its place.

I have heel/toe'd every day I've driven for the past 18yrs...pickup trucks, sports cars, it doesn't matter...it's how I drive and I do it without any thought whatsoever. That being said, rev match pretty much alleviates the need to perform it at all, so even in my position doing something that is mindless, while it'd probably be a habit I'd have to likely undo or force myself out of, focusing on threshold braking would likely be a small advantage...I assume. Inevitably, the vast majority of people who "heel toe" don't really do it well enough...at least of 95% of the drivers I've seen.

I am fairly accomplished with my 3000# C5Z with quartermaster clutch pac. Quite different from shocking the drivetrain of a 3600# plus vehicle with more than twice the torque. With the money one invests in a ZR1 maintaining a nice smooth driveline is probably important. Besides, I know how to R/R the C5Z fairly easily. I would not relish the idea of breaking parts on a vehicle for which I don't even have access to the workshop manual. The ZR1 is so different that it would take awhile to get the rythm down precisely. During that learning curve, as I stated above, there may be the ocassional bad shock to the drivetrain. Not my cup of tea. However, I have the A8. But I certainly no longer begrudge any rev matching with the M7. And, as you know I would assume, there are the ocassional turns at the track where the downshift, steering and throttle can get busy enough to encourage one to downshift a little earlier on entry. The rev match helps to eleviate that rush quite nicely.
