Default Sound deadening in ZR1

I had some sound deadening added to the ZR1- made a big difference. I was pleasantly surprised that it cut more of the road / tire noise but can still hear the exhaust pretty well. I like that. As an added benefit the stereo sounds so much better. I know the track guys are going to beat up on me for adding weight and slowing the car down but it seems to be the same. I can still get from my house to work in 18 minutes. I know this is not something a lot of ZR1 owners would like but a very enjoyable mod in my opinion. Kind of a like a bad a** Grand Tourer .

Maybe an option, but that adds weight and the car is heavy enough. It’s supposed to be a sports car not a Cadillac!

Added about 25 lbs ( guessing- I wish now i would have weighed the material used). Still pretty sporty. I add about 240lbs every time I get in it. If I lose 25 lbs its all good.

My comment was directed to the gentleman who thought it should be stock. I think you did exactly as you wanted and that’s cool too. Nice Long Beach red too, my z06 is the same color.

I will be curious if the extra weight will be noticeable. Car did 190.5 in the mile without. Long Beach Red is a great color.

I don’t think it will affect it much. But it all adds up. Here’s mine!

What material or kit did you use? As much as I object to adding weight the ZR1's road noise is annoyingly loud on long road trips. I don't mind adding a little weight to perfect its civility. I was leaning toward one of Cowboy's kits, but haven't researched the variants yet.

I have had the kit for years. bought for my zo6 but never had it installed. it may be the cowboy premium kit. i dont remember where i bought it. it has the rubber like layer with aluminum backing plus a 2nd layer of the closed cell foam with foil as well. look at double extreme kit on exotic vette.very similar to what I had. makes the car much more enjoyable to cruise . still hear the pipes when exhaust is open.

Crazy cowboy installed his double extreme kit which attenuated highway speed noise levels about 4 dBa with about 40 lbs of material, and I also lay on top of the carpet a US Cargo Control Sound Blanket 80" x 96" - Heavy Duty Sound Absorbing Moving adding about 10 lbs and reducing noise levels about an additional 2 dBa at highway speeds. Not quite Lexus quiet, but now it is a comfortable daily driver.
