Yes, Your comment lines up with the disclosure statement from the body panel manufacturer who stated they needed to expand to support a new GM vehicle while the existing vehicle (the C7) continues to be manufactured. As I recall, the C7 would continue to be manufactured for two or three years after the introduction of the new vehicle slated as a 2020 model.

So, in 2015 Worldwide Porsche sold 74,000 Cayennes and 81,000 Macans - 2/3 of its sales, plus 31,000 911s, 17,000 Panamaras and 22,000 Boxster/Cayman and 550 918's.
22,000 Boxsters/Caymans sold is not a huge number considering Porsche sells 70% of its cars outside the USA, including 30% in China - its largest market, where SUV's haven't fully caught on yet.

If they do low volume on a mid-engine Vette, on what car's back will those sales be supported?

Yeah, C7 buyers.

Default Not A Good Idea

I am adding my 2 cents worth just in case someone from GM / Corvette is reading these threads.

As a long time Corvette owner (4 to date) I am pleased that the cars I drove combined speed, design, reliability, and comfort is such a way that I went out and bought the newest one as soon as it became available.

BUT, if Corvette becomes a mid-engine car I will have no choice but to move my money to another brand. Mid-engine cars have no performance advantage over the C5,6,7 ( we beat them all the time at Le Mans) and simply do not fit the needs of American drivers. We are large, fun loving people who drive thousands of miles on vacation and have wives that require at least 6 suitcases for every trip they take... Best a mid-engine car can carry is 2 small gym bags!

So Dear GM, don't mess with success... if it ain't broke don't fix it!!!

I would love the off-the-line traction advantage a rear/mid engine platform would provide.

I think that there could very well be a mid engine Corvette but I can't see any reason why Chevy would stop making the traditional C7 style Corvette.

The C7 was the first Vette in a while that was just not equal to the competition, but in many ways far better. And IMHO it is one of the most beautiful cars ever made.

It would make absolutely no sense for Chevy to abandon this market and the thousands of loyal Corvette buyers out there. It there is a new car it will be at a higher level, like the Ford GT and it will just enhance the Corvette IMO. GM is growing up and they are ready to show the world that they can make the world's best car at any price level.

with a major increase in factory floor square footage at both the bowling green plant and the indiana subcontracter that produces the external body parts, the clues are that they plan to sell more sports cars, not less, so I expect to see all the current models plus a midengine, eventually more.

look at all the different models of porsche and ferrari that have been built over the years. if there is a market, gm will attempt to exploit it.
