It won't, so your arguments aren't even valid. 50 a year? Try 5 to 10 times that (250-500). Remember this is a global game now, this car would be a worldwide halo.
i didn't mean to replace the front engine

The fact that they state the C7's last production year is 2017 just makes no sense financially for GM/Chevy. With an $80,000 base price for the supposed C8, there is no way that production will be maintained at over 20,000 units. This would most likely push potential buyers to either go the Camaro route or purchase from another auto maker like porsche or BMW.

A reduced production number means the investment in Bowling Green may not payoff and would also mean work force reductions there as well.

I just think the best strategy for a mid-engined vehicle by GM would be under the Cadillac name plate that would be produced along side the C7 in Bowling Green. They could then produced limited quantities in the 500s and still produce 20k - 30k corvettes per year.

Again, like the article, this is all speculation until GM officially announces regardless of what those credible sources state.

MSN is confused.

2018 is the Mid-Cycle (or refresh) of the C7, this is totally different than the Mid-Engine (2019), or even the C8 (2021)

And it will be built at Bowling Green in part of the new paint facility. 800,000 square feet is not just for paint.

Two years ago I posted that the girls and boys back in Milford were working on a Mid-engine, all wheel drive, Carbon Fiber frame.....so why the surprise?

I wish it costs 80k-100k it makes it more exclusive rather than a regular joe's sports car. As long as it comes in manual I'm in.

If they can't cool the Z06 engine at the front of the car, what makes anyone think they can cool it at the back? Even if they don't use the LT4 engine in the Zora, it is not easy to cool a high-power engine mounted at the rear. My point is, GM engineers are still trying to figure out the persistent issues with the C7.

If GM were to invest too much in the development of the next design/model. they would be saying "oh well, the last model still has serious issues, but surely people will want to buy our more expensive next model!" *facepalm*

They should get the all C7 variants *completely* dialed in first. Then, people might be more confident in dropping $80,000 for a base model.

EDIT: Actually I'm waiting for GM to make a DOHC V8 for the Corvette, then maybe when the pushrods go away... maybe... ... who knows what's next

A mid engine is pure fantasy. It makes ZERO economic and market sense for GM. To stop production of the best selling Corvette model ever after just four years will not happen.

GM is not stupid, it will not eliminate the current price point for a car that will cost $100K plus.

I don't belive that a mid engine is fanrasy...there are already 2 P cars with that type of layout in the Corvette price range, a touch more but still very close.
As for being the best selling ever the first 3 years of the C6 were very close in sales to the C7.
And GM is stupid...they have proved that over and over, kind of like that dead horse we so like to beat. It took them from 1953 until 2014 to put a quality interior in the Corvette, does that not sound like they are a bit slow.
With todays technology and advancements in performance cars, along with Cafe regulations GM is trying to stay ahead of the curve, which they did in the C7. But it is going to fall by the wayside sooner rather than later.
I love my C7 and look forward to the C8, as most of us do. I would think that GM is seriously considering a mid engine car. And it could be done at an entry level price of 70K with ease...with bumps every 6 months, pretty standard fair for Corvette.

$70k mid engined? Not a chance. $150k minimum. Probably closer to $200k.

and for this reason and others GM will NOT produce a mid-engine nor will it stop building C7s in 2018.

Yeah and that very large multimillion $ paintbooth is just for painting cars.

I think it will happen, however the C8 will be a typical Corvette front-engine layout. Yes there will be 2 very different cars.

Do you want to wager money that GM will not make a mid-engine car. Because they will and I'm always interested in making easy money.
