GM designed an all new 4.5L 72 degree V8 DOHC TT diesel engine for their trucks around 2006/2007. They paid for all the R&D and the tooling to mass produce them.

Then GM canceled it in 2009 when the economy went to ****.

I'm still trying to figure out why, under the camo, it's still got a base Stingray fender vent. You'd think it would have the GS or Z inlet.

Yes I think you're correct. The window for the ZR-1 to be introduced as a 2018 model is closing very fast. If it isn't announced soon, then it will be a 2019 model. What many have not figured out is the impact on the ME car. GM is not going to introduce a ZR-1 then announce a ME car right behind it. They want to recoup their investment and allow at least a year of ZR-1 sales before announcing the ME. That means a mid-engine Corvette won't be on the market until at least MY2020, probably more like 2021.

AND it's taking forever for GM to get these cars to market or even to talk about 'em.

I'm beginning to lose interest in these vehicles.

Unless the ME vette is very limited and markedly more expensive. Otherwise, I think you're probably right.

I've been very closely following the ZR1 story since it was supposed to be released in January. Then people in the know said April. Then it was at some race in August. Still nothing!!! And supposedly the C8 is supposed to debut at 2018 Detroit show.

So....does anyone know why the development of the ZR1 is taking so long? There must have run into problems. Afterall, it's not like they're developing a whole new generation of Corvette.

I look forward to that comparison test between the ZR1 and the Porsche GT2! Also, I wonder if the ZR1 can beat the old Viper ACR's record lap times.

sum1 said in this forum I believe that gm was only making 2000 zr1s according to a gm employee... If 2000 me Corvettes were only being made that would make a lot of sense

No. A truck driver said that they were only building 2000 Zr1's.

Possibly overheating, but my concern would be the A8. With the increased HP and maybe some increased torque is it possible the ZR1 is chewing them up and spitting them out? I don't have any inside information as my only GM contact is my Father's brother's nephew's cousins former roommate. However, I've followed the reports for those who have had a problem with the A8 and wondered how GM could increase the HP and not increase the number of instances of issues.

The fenders are new. They are wider at the front to match the new wider bumper, no need for filler spats. To make the new fenders' vents as big as possible the vents are angled like a Stingray and extend up higher on the fender.

* Note that the line from the top of the vent back to the door is horizontal, parallel with the top of the fender. On other C7 fenders that line angles sharply downward toward the front.

I'd be more worried about the M7. The A8 is rock solid in the Z.

Its only rock solid if used as a street car if I am not mistaken. If the A8 is sent for track duty it has some issues.
