I can't imagine Ferrari or Lamborghini designing their cars not to lose.

Well hopefully the C8 will be both classic and exotic...C7 had a short run for a reason. I really wanted to want one, The 7 never called out to me I like the looks but never wanted to own one...hmmn may be I need a hearing aid....lol

The C7 is not going to be that short a run if we are to believe the C8 will come out in 2021. I don't think GM ever intended for certain generations (C3, C4 in particular) to be SO long, but GM's problems made them last that long. I hope that GM is on the right track now to have each generation of Corvette last 6-7 years. C5 lasted 8 model years, C6 lasted 9 model years, but the C6 was extended because of the bankruptcy, the C7 was supposed to come out in 2011 or 2012 if I remember correctly.

I like the Monaro/GTO. Have two of em aka GTO. IMO, the styling problem with the car was the wheels and the stance. It just plain looked whimpy. Put a staggered set of wheels on the car with slightly less offset in the front, and poof... Looks more bad-***. 17x8 48mm ET all around looked too pedestrian and didn't even fit right in the front. As for handling? I never tracked one, but the GTO drives decent. I dunno how anyone can really fault it for the way it drives, unless it was a high mileage one with worn out suspension parts...

...And then the C7 bashing. Have one of those as well. Kinda sounds like I'm on the wrong car forum? Hmmm...

Styling is a matter of opinion.
Very few actually share your opinion.
The C7 is by and large an overwhelming styling success, and you know it.
Place the C6 and C7 side-by-side, and 8/10 people like the C7 better.

I agree. Many hated and continue to hate "the melting mascara" tail lights on the C7. The new Lexus SC 500 has similar but thinner version of the melting mascara tail lights. So again perhaps GM styling is ahead of the trend.

You should have shown the "original" Aztek, not the watered down one after everyone said "We don't like your cheap looking black plastic cladding and stuck on bits". That was Tom Peter's signature "styling" to appeal to the "younger" generation. The much more sophisticated styling was on the way more successful Buick Rendezvous, that was designed to appeal to an older buyer. Both were the same SUV, but with styling targeted to different buyers.

Then they toned the Aztek styling down, like the photos you posted show.

I see a lot of the "original" Aztek in the C7.

Geez you guys are being a bit harsh on the Monaro !
I doubt that Simcoe had much to do with the design anyway - he was managing GM Asia at the time. It would seem that the chief designer gets the credit for the design team effort in most cases anyway.

The Monaro was initially designed on a zero budget, the initial work was done in the designers own time - GM-H refused to give them any budget for the idea. After they gave the design and modelling to GMH they agreed on a concept car for 98 motor show. The interest was so strong that GMH had to build the car, but it had to built to a budget - it ended up being built around the existing 4 door Holden Commodore, basically a 2 door SS Commodore.
My brother was at GMH at the time it was designed and built and said the production cost was less than the US GM executives would have spent on office catering in one year !

The GTO also didn't arrive in America for quite a long time after it first hit production...critiquing its styling so many years after it was originally released is also unfair.

Some will always see the potiential future of corvette as a glass half empty experience while others will see it as glass half full.

Just as a leopard can't change its spots..people can't change their personality.

None of us know what the c8 will be...

I'm a glass half full kind of guy so I fully expect the c8 to be stunning..affordable and offer class leading breath taking performance ...

The C6 looks very dated these days...

Your "forever classic" gets zero 2nd looks where I live, while my Z06 brings questions like "is it a Ferrari?"

^^^^^ My C2 coupe looks dated, but, damn, it is beautiful car, with classic looks.

Cars are like women. There are some women that are the age of my '64 Corvette and while dated, are still very beautiful, and then there are ones that are young and ugly.

I love to go the auto museums and look at some of the most beautiful cars imaginable, but then, on the drive home I see an Aztek.

Being a former owner of a 63 Coupe, top flight and Blommie Gold owner, I agree very much with the LOOKS of the C2. However, a much different time period not covered by many of the Federal Highway Safety Laws, and insurance influence the cars must pass today to be able to be sold to the public. The sleek body panel designs, lack of crash bumpers, and many other "safety" items allowed the designed to be sleek and small. The C2 Corvette is so much smaller then the C5 and beyond. Just look at the seats of the C2, now headrest, except as offered as options for the later years. Hoods, panels etc. had no I-beams, the birdcage itself was very small, and the frame was so simple it was used for both the C2 and C3, only changed due to additional safety requirements for the C4.

I have seen many design kit cars emulating the 63 Coupe and the 53 Corvette using C5 and beyond frames and power trans, to me they look funky because they are so much longer and wider then the originals they emulate. My view is they are nice but do not hold their own against the originals. I think they look weird, like "Wanna Bes".

The C3, Shark design really is a disaster with design during its lifecycle. Because it had to adapt and changed over the life of the car to excepted the added features and options to comply with safety regulations, pollution requirements, and crash requirements during its lifecycle. The C3 was really not designed for all the changes it went through from 73 onward, that is why around 1979 and especially the 80's the last years of the C3 it really changed it looks a lot form what it started in 1968. Heck the 67 Corvette model year was not suppose to be a C2, but because of design issues of the changing laws got to be produced, and the 67 is the best year of the C2.

Of course the C2 will always maintain the persona of the ultimate design, but it was created during an era when design was the primary concern, and safety was in the form of optional seatbelts.

Lts hope they budget a bit more time on designing the *** end than they did on the C7... OMG --which looks like a DAYS WORTH OF 1ST PASS DESIGN..

Isn't that the problem... people are mistaking it for a Ferrari as opposed to saying "that's a Corvette wow!" I just saw a yellow C6 Z06 the other day and it still looks beautiful. The base C6 can look a bit dated but then again.. that was minimalist styling... which was the style at the time, same goes for that GTO. the lack of excessive styling is a style unto its own...
My god, has anyone seen the new Honda Civic ? Excessive styling for stylings sake!

Ultimately beauty is in the eye of the beholder..

I can...I can...because they are all sold out at every Chebby dealer across the country and you are too impatient to wait for one to be built and you can't afford the $20,000 dealer markup the dealers are getting.

Odds are better for you to snag a new Ford GT at half price at your local Ford dealer clearance sale.

I was waiting for him to tell me I could not afford a C7Z and then ask him how I was just able to purchase this house for $640k 2 miles from the beach last week.
