Meet the 2019 C8 Mid Engine Corvette
#21
These weren't wealthy guys, two of them were retired NY firemen. And that has always been the beauty of the Corvette. It's pricey for guys like them and me, maybe it's a stretch, but it's POSSIBLE. The pricing structure is part of what makes Corvette Dreams come true. I can only hope GM knows this, I agree with jaga above that they MUST. That's the whole key to why they sell 3-4X as many sports cars as Porsche.

The new NSX has a 200,000 sq ft building to build their cars, and that includes the paint shop(which is quite sophisticated).
The new expansion at Bowling Green is 450,000 sq ft(and that includes the new paint shop). The present building in Bowling Green has around a million sq ft I believe. I believe that after the new paint shop goes in production this coming summer, then the freed up floor space of the existing paint shop will allow for expansion of the frame fabrication department that will allow for building frames for both the front engine C8 and the mid engine Cadillac(and possibly a mid engine Corvette after a couple of years, depending on the success of the Caddy sports car. If the Caddy can compete with M-B, Porsche and Acura, then that will delay the mid engine Corvette. If the Caddy bombs, then the car becomes a Corvette with new skin) that will be assembled in the new 450,000 sq ft addition, after the new paint shop is up and running..
I believe they will build the front engine C8 in the existing building and the mid engine car(s) in the new building.

^^^ The magical formula is one C8 rumour thread per every ten "my A8 sucks" threads.
So......we need 4 C8 threads going at any given time.

I would stop calling this car a C8, because it isn't. It's going to be a whole separate entity from the front engine cars. C8 will come in the early 20s as a refreshed C7 type of Corvette. This mid engine car will be a premium sports car different from C8. To put almost 70 years of fine eggs in the one basket above would be a Marketing disaster for GM. The above car is just going to be an additional choice of Corvette not at all a C7 replacement GM isn't that stupid. C8 will come a couple years later.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, if a M.E. materializes it will NOT out perform the 2018/19 top dog front engine vette. It's existence will solely be to satisfy the "manicure " crowd, at least in the early stages. If it sells well and people cry foul for under performing the Z then maybe GM will trophy it. (Probably have to sabotage the Z in the process)

GM is not going to release a C7 ZR1 in 2018 and then turn around and release C8 the following year. Doesn't make sense. Maybe C8 in 2021 as previously stated in this thread.

this is America!
C7 is "so yesterday"-
then the new C8 owners will diss C7 owners with "no comparison"yadayada like the C7 owners did to C6 owners....it's what we do
if that IS very much what the C8 will look like, I'M ALL IN!

Burning Brakes
All wheel drive with some added HP should be the next move and will keep the cost way under a mid-engine car.
