I believe the C7.R is the same way.
IIRC, it's part of the series regulations.

My final thought on Nurburgring times: They get published and everyone bench races the results, ignoring the most important component of the published time....the driver. I, for one, don't think that a AMG GT R is faster than a Ferrari 488GTB, but based on published times, the AMG is 11 seconds a lap faster.

Many folks aren't aware of this, but Ferrari doesn't do official Ring times for any of their cars.
They have their own track in Italy for performance R&D.

I think what we're seeing is DCT's, going forward, are going to be used where they make the most sense....in sports cars. It was probably a mistake to ever use them in sedans and such as what people expect from a sedan in terms of driveability is totally different from sports car expectations.

About two weeks ago, someone at Porsche said they were no longer going to publish or use Ring numbers. He said it just wasn't important.

Interesting info on DCT's to be used in medium duty trucks and buses. Looks like the DCT is not just for low torque 2L 4 bangers in lightweight sports cars. LOL

Technology is leaving DCT s behind compared to torque convertor automatics or so say the head of BMW s M division...

DCT s were once regards very highly but technological advances in torque convertor automatics today or in the near future have motivated the head of BMW s M division to make the bold statement future M cars from BMW will begin to phase in torque convertor automatics...

Holly crap...

What will trolls complain about I. Future corvette forum debates? ( kidding of course)

I know for sure not everyone thinks the DCT is dead but thank you for the effort to post those internet links.

What I do know is the head of BMW s M division stated DCT s are not in their future product plans because he feels that the torque convertor automatic has or will shortly supersede the DCT as the right choice for the drivers brand he manages...the supposed Ultimate Driving Machine..

(Edit) hell I still enjoy driving a manual transmission corvette.

They can always say that when they don't have winning numbers. When they do (Porsche 918), they don't hesitate to publish them.

That was almost 6 months BEFORE the fatality at Nurburgring that caused them to place the speed restriction on the track(March 28, 2015). That was 6 months that GM could have done additional attempts to get a time, but they didn't. The fact is that Tadge said his famous remark about releasing the Z06's time was in early June 2015. So, that means that GM would have had to have made that attempt prior to March 28,2015, BEFORE the speed restriction was put in place.

Almost one year to the day(March 30, 2016), Nurburgring lifted the speed restriction(after repairing 300 meters of the track, adding additional guards and fencing, etc). After the speed restriction was lifted, at LEAST 8 auto manufacturers have set times at the Ring with 12 different cars. That's 13 months since the lifting of the speed restriction that GM could have taken the Z06 back to Nurburgring to get a time, But they didn't. WHY? GM somehow found the time/money to take the Camaro ZL1 to Nurburgring to get a time(that they posted) since the speed restriction was lifted.

But, even in 2015, after the March 28 fatality, and before the lifting of the speed restriction, there were four different times posted(Alfa Romeo, Lamborghini, Porsche and BMW).

After all, there is no limit to the number of times a manufacturer can make a timing run that is set by Nurburgring. Hell, GM ran the C6 Z06 at the Ring twice(2005 and 2011) and the ZR1 twice(2008 and 2011), and posted the times for all four runs.

So, all in all, GM has had 19 months to get a time for the Z06, without a speed restriction being in place at the Ring.

If GM had a winning hand they would play it. They don't so they can't. If only GM had spent half as much effort benchmarking the competition instead of their own obsolete C6, the C7 would have advanced the goalposts. It only incrementally moved them past the C6 while falling behind Audi, Nissan, Mercedes, Porsche. And that will never change because GM builds to a price point. The ZR1 at 8 years old is never more than a set of Michelin shoes from being fully competitive with C7 Z06 now in most measures and even faster if you factor top speeds, light weight and cool running.

I wouldn't suggest c6 is obsolete,

Clearly you have a chip on your shoulder....

But thanks for posting up your opinion.

Hmmm... R&T PCOTY testing of the 2017 GS had it faster than the new NSX, GT-R Nismo, Audi R8 V10 plus and effectively tied with a $200,000 Porsche 911 Turbo S at NCM Motorsports Park. If GM was only benchmarking their own cars, that was a good decision it seems... and not sure how you see the C7 falling behind the Audi, Mercedes and Porsche when the GS (let along a Z06) is faster on many tracks at a fraction of the cost.

^^^^

Well, it's those pesky lap times where a GS IS faster than a whole pack of cars considerably more expensive. I never understand why someone goes on ANY enthusiast forum and dogs the subject of THAT forum. I sure don't go on Mustang/Ferrari/Lamb/etc forums and kick the hell out of those cars

Unless we are talking about one of these...

We should never measure a street car based purely on lap times, etc...it's the kind of discussion kids get into.
