As a McLaren and C7Z owner, I don't want an $89K base mid engine car. There's no way the quality will be anywhere near that of exotics at that price point. I'd much prefer the car to start in the $200K range and be an exotic killer. I, for one, am not interested in buying an updated Fiero.
Keep the front engine platform similarly priced to where it is, and offer us a Ford GT fighter for a little less dough and I'm in.

$89,000 is way to much for an entry level Corvette that is now less than $56,000.
50% increase in price will kill the Corvette.

I disagree with the basic premise of the article....that the C8 IS the mid-engine car. I still think (!) that the ME car is going to be labeled as Zora or something like that. I think we'll see the C8, as a further evolution of the C7, in 2020 or 21. Losing one of Corvettes greatest selling points, it's utility, would be a massive mistake. ME cars don't have that utility.

I'm hip...but you have to admit, starting with C5, the Corvette has been pretty exceptional in terms of it's "utility". I do think this feature drives a lot of sales.
BTW, Scarlett is quite a cook....

I can hardly wait for it myself! I have other "utility" vehicles. Just glad that GM continues to evolve the Corvette, it will be great!

You should realize that the mid-engine will supplement the front engine car. Base front engine 50's, base mid in 80's. Won't kill anything. Just another option...just like Z06 is.

I believe that just about everyone believes that the next generation C8 will be a front engine car very similar to the C7, and that there will be a mid engine car(I'm not sure if it will first be a Cadillac or a Corvette, but I lean towards it being a Cadillac) and will be very expensive(a lot more than $89,000).
At this point no one knows what GM is going to do, and absolutely no one knows what the price of a car that GM has not acknowledged that they are even going to build, is going to be.
So, If I were to believe what the article said, then the next generation C8 will be a mid-engine car and will be $89,000, and my reply is still true that a C8 with a price increase of 50% will kill the Corvette brand. The article said nothing about a second Corvette being added to the lineup, but clearly said that the next generation Corvette(C8) will cost $89,000.
Folks, the article is full of bull. GMAuthority has nothing to do with GM and does not speak for GM.

Well, in that case, everyone should be clear, the C8 isn't going to be ONLY a midengine...that's stupidity. They didn't add half a plant at bowling green to sell and build the same 30k'ish cars per year, just with the engine in a different spot for 30 grand more than current.
People just need to look to other brands...Porsche namely...23 different models of 911...targa, vert, gt3, 911r, carrera, gts, etc. The 960 mid engine variant was in the works until dieselgate happened. It's all about expanding the lineup to grab more buyers.
The world (namely America) NEEDS a mid-engine "supercar" that retails under 100. Especially one you can actually get FIXED under warranty without shipping your car or having it wait for parts from Italy, etc. I think GM is gonna kill it.

There are a boatload of people who can and do stretch to afford a $69k car that just can't afford a $103,000 car; and more to the point for anyone to suggest with a 50% increase in base price that GM will sell 30,000+ per year C8's is just insane. The number of single car models that cost $100,000 or more and sell at more than 30,000 units per year in the US is = ZERO. Corvette won't change that.
Once Corvette goes mid-engine only, you remove those who use the Corvette for anything but track or weekend around town use - I am willing to bet those people represent 25-30% of buyers; from there you can also remove 75% of the approximate 18% (6,000/yr) of buyers who purchase convertibles as there can me no mid-engine convertible; and that leaves you with a pool of buyers (not factoring in the cost issues) that is 40% smaller than the current Corvette pool.
If GM does go down the ME only plan, I hope the plan amortizes the tooling and costs for an average of 10,000 cars per year - because if they don't and GM loses money on the C8 (something it hasn't done since the early days of the C1), the Corvette will disappear in any form forever.

I don't assume the article is correct. How would they know in Australia or even here with "GM Authority"? After that long bunch of posts about GM not leaking anything by LT1 etc., there's just no way. Plus, someone is stating that the C7 is OVER by model year '19---a run for the C7 of 5 years? Really.
