The legal papers filed by the panel manufacturer for their plant expansion to support this car indicate they must be in full production by 2020. If the GM schedule remains on target, we should see unveiling in 2019, with the car available as a MY 2020.
Anyone who's read "All Corvettes Are Red" knows these schedules can run into problems.

Donít you all know that the wheel base is so long in order to fit all of the lithium batteries in there? Could get most of 150 miles out of a charge that way before you have to stop for three hours to plug her in.

I for one am excited about a mid-engine Corvette. And I also know NO ONE knows what it actually looks like with all that camouflage. Hell, the spy shots of the Ferrari 488 did not look good either but the actual reveal was stunning.

So to the naysayers, take a step back and enjoy the moment. GM is spending a ton of money finally giving us a mid-engine. And hold your judgement until you actually see the car!

It's all an exercise in justifying current owners' cars; happens with the next gen of almost every car. It even happened with the introduction of the Grand Sport.

These are in no way spy photos as much as some GM person taking a few pics and sending them in. I mean for real....there is one PARKED in the background...a REAL person would run over and take up close pictures. This is all to hype whatever it is.

Return with me now to those thrilling days of yesteryear when we were holding our breath waiting for the highly anticipated 1963 Corvette:

"Boy howdy, that thing is UGLY! Glad I got me a new '62!"

It would be surprising if GM wasn't working on a hybrid model. The world is going electric.

Looks like there is a pointy sculpted front under there.

You and I are in complete agreement...damn thing looks like it is going to crack in half at the B-pillar. I have faith that this car is still 2-3 years away and the rear-end can still change. This just can't be the proportions.

In the bottom photo it "appears" the lowest element on the rear facia/underbody "may" be one of the "patented" active aero elements seen some time back attached to what appears to be a rendering of C7 ZR1. FWIW, I've not seen any active aero underbody on any C7 development mule including speculated ZR1 however it makes sense to debut this technology on new mid engine car.

Anyone notice how skinny that rear tire is? I'd say a 285 at the most...

Assuming that is the kind of tire we can expect on the production model (probably a bad assumption lol) I see two possibilities:

1) this is a base model c8, not a halo "Zora". So we'd expect Z06, GS, models etc with wider fenders/tires.

2) AWD. Don't need a lot of rear grip if you're pulling with the fronts, too...

This is just like the First Gen NSX. By adding that length, you can move the seat front and back and recline the seat back, something lacking to a great degree in many mid-engine cars, plus add a cubby. That extra room is a concession to practicality that GM would surely do, even if it hurts the aesthetics a bit.

The Ferrari above hides it pretty well with all of the surface traffic on the side panels.

Although I love the ZR-1, I don't think I could buy the C7 ZR-1 over the C8 Z06 variant of this mid-engine Vette when it does release. This car is going to be one hell of a car and it's going to cut into the pockets of a lot of high end sports car makers.
