850HP and 750HP your choice

I use to ride very fast liter sportbikes, and I rode them hard. At that time I felt I definitely needed a very fast car.
But it's hard for me all these years later to imagine the need for such power. I guess I'm just exposed to too much traffic and radar enforcement.
I watched a fancy Italian ME car zig zag around on an Austin highway a few days ago, he was accelerating, changing lanes, braking a lot, in the end he seriously ended up about 50 yards in front of me after 15 miles and I was just cruising in a lifted diesel truck with my kid. You can't go anywhere. I experience the same thing in my Vette. I want to exercise it but any more than a 2 second pull and I'm out of space.
It's fun to have a fast car at the race track, but doesn't actually go much faster around the track.
The Hill country roads that I spent my youth riding on, in addition to being more crowded and enforced these days, because they have all these slight rises in them, it's hard to safely go very fast in a low sports car because you can't see very far down the road. Unlike a high sport bike where your head being 2' higher you can commonly see 3x as far down the road. So I'm really limited in a sports car to how far I can safely see, which keeps my speeds to really no more than about 80 when the speed limits are mostly 65 anyways.
I guess I just can't see any logical reason for anymore than about 550 rwhp.

There is no reason why chevy could not or would not sell their base level ME at a similar price as Porsche's, which are already close to the Stingray and Grand Sport prices.

My dealer who seems very knowledgeable on the ME said starting price should be $65,000. The only way they will make enough to cover the tooling and engineering cost is to keep the average price in the $80,000 range and sell a minimum of 15,000 units. I really doubt GM would sign off on a money loosing ME model.
Another point is if they price the base over $100,000, they know the unit sales history of the Z06 and ZR1 and that's not enough units to make a business case for the ME. My opinion is if priced over $80,000 the demand will fall sharply.

Going back to the OP in this thread, the announced maximum in the NA Engine Forecast for the 5.5 L, 32V, DOHC motor is 850 HP. That is the announced maximum for that motor, but nowhere in that document does it also say that that is what it would be for the Corvette. While it is likely IMO to be that the Corvette would be the platform with the maximum amount of power, again, we all know about assumptions.
Second, please and even more important, before anyone makes the assumption it would be the full 850 HP amount, it could well be 785 HP and still be within that stated maximum amount.

I believe about 80% of forum members on the C8 section have agreed it will start around 65-70K for base models. This is supported by multiple theories and evidence such as engine production forecast, panel contracts, individual sources, and corvettes “affordable” business culture for the past 60 years.
But who knows

What did the C4 with the Mercury engine (sorry not sure the designation) sell for 25 years ago? Go from there.
Personally I've been saving in a separate investment account for 3 years. Hope to flip it and move on.
