Not sure if I'm wrong, but it feels like the general public wasn't aware of GM's mid engine prototype racecar... from 2012..

use this car as your basis for the renders, probably closer to the real deal.

Your pictures represent two different versions of the Corvette DP. The white one is styled to resemble the C6. It first appeared in 2012. The black one (rear shot) is styled to resemble the C7 and it first appeared in 2015.

As for the ME, it will not look like either of these.

What I meant was the proportions would probably similar and the front end

Just seems like not a lot people know GM already developed a mid engine race car

Kinda like how Ford's mid engine race car looked just like the 2017 GT?

Oh, wait. It doesn't. At all.

Thanks for the images!
I get what you are saying.

While I believe the basic layout may be similar, as the GM team learned a lot from these cars, the cabin proportions will be similar to the c7 IMO...as it should be. The nose as you point out may have inspired the c8 nose in some ways. The headlamps have features that feel like the ME spy pics like the Tri LEDs and larger lamp behind. Note the overall shape. The fenders and hood may echo in the ME as well.

You can see that the front end does resemble the ME a bit and I am sure influenced the design.

These purpose-built DP race cars are designed and contructed to the sporting regs/specs and will have zero to do with the ME.

It's a stretch to say that GM developed the Daytona Prototype Corvettes. The chassis was Dallera or Riley (I can't remember)

The bolded might carry some weight, but the hundreds of thousands (if not millions) that follow/enjoy IMSA racing have known about it since its debut.

I'm a big Corvette fan and follow all the car news daily, etc.. and somehow I didn't know about the mid engine racecar until last year. I found out by playing forza on Xbox one...

So I figured if I didn't know, then probably most of the general public doesn't know

You can be proud of yourself: apparently you don't waste a lot of time watching racing on TV, unlike myself.

I don't think GM had a lot to do with the car, though, other than writing a check. The Daytona Prototypes were intended to offer a relatively low cost platform for competitors to develop and I think was the brain-child of NASCAR. I thought that they had developed a series that offered a lot of close racing and I'm sorry to see them go.

Several manufacturers campaign Prototype cars such as Acura, Cadillac, Mazda, Nissan, Audi, etc. None of the production vehicles end up looking like their prototype siblings.

They had some cool looking GTP cars back in the '80s too.
Check out the shape of their side air inlets

Hey guys, I heard Infiniti is working on a mid engine car too. Think it'll be a challenger to the C8? I'll bet it strongly resembles the race car.

True.
Those prototypes are purpose-built racecars not meant to be sold to the public.
Very cool to look at and watch race, but not something you can pick up at a dealer.

LOL...yup, Red Bull's F1 racer.

Oddly, as coincidence would have it, Red Bull is teaming up with Aston Martin to bring out a Hypercar called "The Valkyrie."

Please ignore the kid's annoying enthusiasm in this video :

All GM developed was the body skin to resemble a Corvette. Those are just Daytona Prototypes.

But the designers of the upcoming mid engined car almost certainly had pictures hung all over the walls and taped to their monitors of past Corvette related racecars, mid engined prototypes, and Zora's smiling face to draw inspiration. Some of the spy shots seem to show the camo could be hiding a side intake shape that may resemble those GTP cars. The Corvette Indy was similar too.

the tt lt5 cerv really did it for me. An understressed 750 hp dohc twin turbo in an aerodynamic and thoroughly modern chassis.

that car was flat out awesome and had the full catalog of advanced technology GM had in the skunk works thrown at it.

not too far off from where we are today in terms of hp and performance targets and that was a LONG time ago.

gm needs a world beater again.
