I just remember waiting a long time after the C5 was introduced to be able to order my C5 convertible.
My C6 is a 2010, so well after the introduction.

As the C7 was designed structurally to be topless from Top to bottom, I don’t see them reversing that design approach in the future. Besides the potential of losing customers (including yours truly) if a topless / convertible options was unavailable, the competition is, so they will. It may not be year one, but they will.

Yes, there will be a convertible. However, I don’t think it will have a soft top...it will have a removable targa and the vertical rear window will retract down. No retractable hardtop
The coupe, on the other hand, while it will also have a targa, will have a sloping rear glass like the C7 with venting along both sides.

You don't think they would try an make a retractable hardtop like the 488 spider? Cost, space? Just curious.
For me, If the coupe has a removable targa, I don't see a whole bunch of difference between the 2 unless it had a retractable top. Same amount of sky overhead so to speak.

Wouldn't air flow around our bald heads be the same, as well as getting our scalp blistered by the sun, just like a C7 convertible?

To me at least a convertible has the ability to remove the roof without getting out of the car. If you have to pull over to manually remove the top then it is a Targa. I've driven both and there is a HUGE difference in wind noise, the Targa even with the rear window down is too noisy for me. If they don't have a true convertible with a push button roof then I'm not interested and will switch to another brand without a second thought (even if I have to spend more money compared to the vette)

Safety Car
Given the structural requirements, where the motor is located, and what we have seen from the mules/CAD drawings/rendering, I would be surprised if there is a electrical convertible top option.
Perhaps as to your second concern, wind noise, unless one has tried the ME targa specifically, it is too soon to write it off — for maybe GM has an ingenuous solution to that in the new car.

Don't other mid engine convertibles have an electric roof, Porsche boxster for example? Would it be more difficult in the corvette mid engine because the engine will be larger?

How does the 488 spider solve the issue? Just curious.
As with art...GM should steel from the best!
Top down at 5:30...pretty sweet.

Also, over my many years of convertible ownership I found that if I had to stop and manually do the roof then I would hardly ever have the roof down. But with more recent corvette convertibles with the electric roof I find myself putting the roof down way more, for example while at a traffic light.

If the roof was removed and the rear glass lowered(assuming the mid engine does have a vertical rear window), wouldn't that be the same as a C7 convertible with a permanent roll bar installed behind the seats?

Everything I see on the spy pictures indicates 2 different cars being tested. A convertible with a flat rear deck and vertical window and a coupe with a sloped rear window with vents running along both sides.
Additionally, and maybe it’s just me, but I think a soft top would look super strange on a mid-engine. It just doesn’t work, IMO.

C8 Spider
To me, the spy pictures do not reflect a design that would allow for a retractable hardtop. Also, I just don’t think it makes sense with respect to cost and added weight. Cadillac, yes. Corvette, nope. Ferrari can pull it off because they sell cars for $200k+

My 1969 Corvette coupe(T-Top but the same as a one piece targa except it had two separate roof panels)also had a vertical rear window that could be removed.
With the T-Tops removed as well as the rear window removed, it drove just like the 1957 Ford convertible I had years earlier.
