Who has put down a deposit?
I'm new here and this is my first thread.
My dealer here in Ontario is about the largest in Canada. I was talking to them yesterday. If I put down a deposit now I'm pretty well guaranteed an early car. Anyone else? Terms & conditions? Opinions?

I wouldn’t put down a deposit on a car that’s smoke and mirrors and unannounced. Not to mention pricing is completely unknown. Make sure it’s 100% refundable if you do and get it in writing

100% refundable, no questions asked, $1,000 ME deposit with Mike Furman (Criswell Chevrolet), on Feb. 1, 2015.
I have dealt with Mike before and there is no nicer person, nor one with more integrity.

Yeah, bought my z06 w/ Mike, will be buying my c8 with him as well. I'm just holding off for a little until the go fast version is announced.

Both my friend Tom, and I, have also placed a deposit on the ME with Mike Furman. We are, however, not interested in a “base model” and will stall our purchase for a “performance” version, if not available on the first model year.

As to why a dealer who take a deposit? They have an internal, prioritized listed (time and date stamped in the case of Mike Furman), to systematically and fairly to file orders once the ordering starts — especially but not exclusively for repeat customers.
As to why a customer would place a deposit? My C6 Z06, for example, as a result of my # 1 on a top forum’s internal priority list, was that dealer’s first C7 Z06 order he submitted. It was made the first week of production, been one terrific car. Again, all deposits are completely refundable with Mike Furman@Criswell, no questions asked, so if the ME only comes in pink or is otherwise not what I want, I will order a 2020 ZR1 from him.
Everyone customers gets to choose, and I choose to have the option to getting my Corvette’s early d,

I too have a fully refundable, 1K deposit on the C8 with Mike Furman (Criswell Chevrolet). I am very excited and took after Elegant recommendation!

As I said, mine is a very large dealer. I'm being told that I would be #3 on their list with the ability to choose color and options on the day that orders open. Pondering today.

I truly wonder if you have looked at the irrefutable data, sightings and testimonials of those that have personally witnessed this vehicle on this board? The car DOES exist, will it be still born, will some financial or technological glitch occur, and the car never make it to public consumption, who knows for sure? Now, do I want one if and when the “prototype” morf’s into a product, you bet your sweet a$$! So, like Elegant said, if a “Reputable” dealer, and Mike Furman is one of the best, is willing to take a small deposit to hold me a place in line . . . .well sign me up. The beauty of it all is, if you don’t believe, don’t want, don’t like, then don’t buy. Also please don’t rain on my parade and next tell me there is no Santa Claus.

According to a reliable source, who I can not ID, GM plans to roll out the new C8 at the Jan., 2019, Auto Show. Orders , however, won't be taken until late summer, and/or early fall, 2019. Why on earth would anyone tie up their funds this far in advance??

So, you KNOW, that the ME “exists” and that the probability of a 1/19 reveal will in fact take place. Why on earth, if the ME is your wish/dream, would you not place a 100% refundable deposit on the chance you may be among the first to own one? Oh, that’s right, you would be “tying up” your funds. How much interest can you accrue on $1k a year anyway, $30-40.? I drop that much just going out to dinner with my wife in one night, if not more. I’d gladly take that “loss” to be sure I get the ME I’ve coveted since the ‘60’s. I guess that’s the “why on earth” for me

Why is this debated? You're renting a spot in line. Pretty simple.

So what? $1000 is chump change to some. A redundable deposit to a reputable dealer costs you $30 in interest. The C8 is coming and the big name dealers will get them. Getting to have one early is exciting for those that can afford them brand new.

Very simple, a deposit puts you nearer to the front of the line. For the first couple of years of the C7 production we had people complaining that they couldn't get an allocation. The same may very well happen for the next generation Corvette. If a person wants an early production ME, there is little downside to putting down the deposit. If you are OK waiting for allocation, don't put a deposit down.
When I bought my 2016 at Les Stanford, they told me they already had a significant list for a ME.

The reason why that timeline that you were told is inaccurate is as follows. GM (it’s all detailed in the making of the C7 book), thought about revealing the C7 at the LA Auto Show, and conversely, not until the New York Auto Show. It was decided that the timing of the January, 2013 NAIAS C7 reveal was just the right timing, that conversely the November, 2012 LA show would have been too long before the first customer cars were delivered, and the March/April NY 2013 show was too close/too late for customer car deliveries.
GM got that C7 reveal-to-delivery timing just right, and similarly, with a Jan. 2019 ME reveal, they will be delivering ME to customers sometime during the summer of 2019.
