Default Do You Think The M/E Car Will Have More Room Inside?

Some of the recent photos make the wheelbase look huge. Im hoping for more leg room, are M/E cars usually more roomy inside?

Leg room would be nice, but I don't how there's going to be more room inside of a m/e.

Friends of the fam have some ME Italian cars in garage, I hadn't thought, gee these are roomy when I hopped in for a ride. I didn't think they we're tight either, I'm just 6 ft btw.

The central tunnel, assuming that there is one, won't need to be as big to accommodate the bell housing and torque tube, so that should free up some interior room.

The large central tunnel is an extremely important structural element of the frame. Eliminating the bell housing and torque tube isn't going to make any difference in the size of the center tunnel, unless the ME is not going to have a taiga roof or a convertible version available.

The large boxed center tunnel is what has provided the C5/C6/C7 with it's much greater torsional and rigidity while having smaller side frame rails vs the C4.

I wouldn't be surprised to see the gas tank located within the center tunnel(like the Pontiac Fiero had) as well as the engine coolant lines to two front mounted radiators.

I did some laps in a newish Lambo recently and that thing was HUGE inside compared to my C6. It was great as I don't like being crowded.

Default Pantera

the bulkhead/rear window of my Pantera is 4 inches behind my head . since the trunk for for ME cars is in the front and rear, there is no reason for a "large" cabin.

I would expect less.

Personally, I would like some vertical doors. Not for a cool factor, but just such a PITA opening these 10 ft long doors without hitting something.

I expect "about the same" inside.

I'd expect the same, but in most ME's I have seen or sat in, the front wheel houses intrude on footwell space on the outboard sides of the car. I would expect the Corvette will be the same. This may be ameliorated by the lack of a clutch pedal if 10 speed auto or PDF type transmission is used in place of the M7.

Some would argue that a lack of clutch pedal isn't an ameliorable solution.

I think I have read that the gas tank will be in a central tunnel, but that doesn't mean that it will have to be as wide and high as with the front engined car. The C4's frame was made of a lot of stamped steel pieces welded together and was inherently less stiff than the parts of subsequent cars. I'm just saying that the potential would exist to reduce the size of the tunnel, but we're arguing design details without any proof one way or the other. We should be finding out pretty soon.

Default The ME is better in a Corvette!

You can't recline anyway! No rear seating. The front seating space should be similar.
The performance will be better on smaller rubber.
The Corvette is going to be the real deal, seek elsewhere for that domestic space-

I would expect less and I would also expect harder to get in and out of. Every mid engine car I have been in was harder to get in and out of than any of my Corvettes.

As a for instance, the central tunnel in my Ferrari F355 is 2 inches tall and 4 inches wide. This is vastly smaller than the tunnel in the Vette.

One thing we may get in the ME is a bit of foot offset towards the tunnel as the interior is pushed forward and between the feet occupy the area between the fender walls of the front wheels.

The large central tunnel is probably only required if the ME has a targa top. If they eliminate the targa top, they can tie the “box” together at both the top and bottom and probably save weight in the process !

The tunnel is a primary structural component. Probably carbon fiber

I am sure that my wife and I will fit in a C8 convertible OK. All I want is the trunk space of my C6 convertible, so we can continue our 5-6000 mile multi week road trips. I don't care if the trunk is split between front and rear, as long as we can pack our stuff in there.
