The Autoextremist says the C8 will be within $10,000 of the C7

This is never the fun part, the waiting and over speculation, well some may find it fun.

Lots of angst developing in this thread. Unless a highly unlikely price leak, at least 282 more days until we know the answer.
It could be that the first to place their orders ME’s next spring still do not know the price (GM has done that a time or two for Corvette pricing in the fairly recent past), though I do not think that will occur this time.

When the price is finally revealed it will be interesting to see how many will step forward and admit their crystal ball was *****...my guess is very few.

It makes no sense to me to spend $900 million dollars on a larger plant, and then have two different models(FE & ME) running side by side down the assembly line and being priced nearly the same. That would appear that GM would be in competition with itself for Corvette customers. I don't see the 911 being priced the same as the Boxster/Cayman. By having a wider pricing spread, you are opening up yourself for more customers that have different sized pocketbooks.

Whether sales of the mid engine Corvette will decrease really depends on how daily drive-able it is. Many current Corvette owners chose this car because it is as close to a super car as you can get in terms of performance while retaining a lot of luggage space, MPG etc.
If the ME car has a small little storage area like a Huracan, then GM will potentially lose a good number of buyers who plan to daily or at least drive it 3-4 times a week.
If the ME version will be the only version, I'm sure GM heads are well aware of the potential downfall of gaining some new customers while losing some. They may design the front compartment to be able to fit 1 golf bag or a big enough space behind the seats to fit it. But it's not going to be as convenient as the current C7 and it may be at the cost of detriment to the performance.
So that's why I'm all for GM making both a mid and front engine "Corvette'.

On Autoline After Hours this week the Autoextremist (Peter Delorenzo) said that the C8 will be within $10,000 of the C7. "Everyone is going to be amazed at what they have done with that car in terms of pricing". Go to 59 minute point.

I believe the "rumor" of no manual transmission is designed to get consumers off the bench and buy a c7 corvette..
Even thou after driving manual transmission sports cars for literally 40 years...I want to try a dct in a corvette..
If GM offers up a torque converter automatic instead of a dct I'll buy the manual transmission option.
I never believe early rumor crap....half of the magazines are feed nonsense to throw everyone off who follows the brand..
Doesn't even matter the brand...but especially the latest and greatest 40 years in the making..the rear mid engine corvette..
That I believe is happenings. Thats about it,

While the thought of a mid-engine manual gearbox car sure tickles the minds of purists like myself, I'd be AMAZED if it were offered. I sported a Diablo VT with a manual, a Testarossa, a 355 and a couple of kit based cars and I can vouch...it's awesome. Fact is though, the weight bias of a mid-engine really makes the car a handful when you combine gear shifting on track. Totally manageable but...ya know...people ain't drivers anymore.

16 Vettes and counting…..
The first VW Beetle was imported to the US in 1949. Even though the VW Beetle was a HOT item for many years in the US, VW stopped making rear engine VW's.
Time marches on.
VW started making front engine cars(and they still do) to replace their NEW idea of a rear mounted car.
GM tried the same thing with the Corvair in 1960. Do you know what happened to the Corvair while the remainder of GM's products remained front engine?
Sometimes change is not really a good change.

My Mercedes-Benz SL55 AMG had a retractable hardtop. Never again. Incredibly complex, poor reliability. Those hardtops are notorious for getting stuck/freezing, spewing hydraulic fluid from the top's front struts into the passenger compartment, and also spewing hydraulic fluid from the top's rear struts into the trunk. No more retractable hardtops for me!
The top on my 2013 SL got stuck once while parking it. It would only close half-way. After many failed attempts, it suddenly closed all by itself after the car had been turned off for about five minutes. The car had already been a nightmare for six months and Mercedes could not find anything wrong. Listed it for sale a few days later. Sold it in less than a week for almost what I paid for it. Dodged a major bullet with that POS.
I still like the idea, though.

Somebody did a market and business analysis on the ME w presentation to the Board. U can bet they were peppered w a load more pointed questions than what we hear on this forum. Some of u remind me of Rumplestiltskin.

Personally, I am not buying a C7 ZR1 because I am going to wait for the C8. The C7 is already 6 years into it's run and is starting to feel a little dated, especially in the interior and tech departments.
I expect the C8 will have some nice updates like improvements to the heads up display, offer an all digital gauge cluster, and feature the new version of the very dated Mylink system.
I also expect better layout and elimination of the C4 style wrap around cockpit.

Not a buyer
If folks want tech, by a Lexus or Cadillac. People buy these types of Sport Cars for a reason. Manual gearbox, Tach Dislay and good Stereo is all I need!
Never buy first edition either. Bugs will need to be worked out and much better options available 2 years later if manual offered of course. If not? Then I guess I will have to move to something else sadly

No manual means less costs and variation for GM. I’m really excited for GM to get with the times and use a modern DCT transmission. Idk I’d ill be first in line because of mark up but I’ll definitely be getting one when the price is reasonable.

I wonder if the fiero experience or anything learned from that ME experiment will be how they keep the price down? Meaning, will the ME car be a less refined inside and out of say the C7 to get it priced right? Remember, materials inside and out also dictate costs. Very intrigued with ME now.
but when it does come out. If I sit in it and get that old Fiero vibe.. i will be highly dissatisfied... excited and skeptical.

When I track, or even canyon carve in my manual C6, I certainly pre-select the gear I am going to be exiting in. 450 tq starting around 3K makes this rather easy ime. This way I don't have to grab a gear until I'm mostly heading straight again, and of course I do it very smoothly.
I did ride in some fancy new Lambo at the track. I wasn't impressed with much but what blew me away was how the trans could grab full throttle upshifts while exiting the turns and not lose any momentum or upset the chassis at all. My C6 Z51 was faster around that track, but not faster out of the turns.
