Las Vegas Dealer's Conference: C8 Announcement, it is coming!

Because the base car today is $55K (cheaper with discounts) and the ZR1 fully optioned reaches $150K.
If Corvette continues to offer 3 to 5 different models (Base, Z51, Grand Sport, Z06 and Zr1) there is PLENTY of room for an affordable model to start at $65k as well as your extreme performer that reaches $180k (with gratuitous use of carbon fiber) just as Corvette has always done.
Supposing the base car is going to near the ZR1 price is just ridiculous. GM is going to stick to the same format they always have because it's successful and proven.
If the base car was over $100K, they'd lose the majority of their buyers and I'd also expect it to have a carbon monocoque chassis and weigh 2,800 lbs for that money with a base engine in the area of ~500hp.
Putting the engine behind the driver doesn't automatically make the car more expensive, btw.

Also, before everyone gets hot and bothered about no American 918, LaFerrari or McLaren P1, I'll point out that Porsche, Ferrari and McLaren were able to satisfy the entire worldwide demand for such a car in less than 18 months and so these models are now out of production. Good for selling magazines, but lousy for shareholders.
You know shareholders like me really like ? 30,000 model sales a year, and continuous production of said model through 7 generations since 1953 !!! Now THAT, gentlemen is a spectacular business model !!!

Melting Slicks
John, I don't know if you remember this or not, but that 488 GTB was definitely a ringer. I was there for that test and I couldn't believe the time that it put down. Not normal and definitely consistent with what Ferrari has done in the past.

Benchmarked! ;)
It's hasn't been all about track times Skank!
The C8's brother, plus the ZR1's stuff, and the 720s's stuff - gets it done!
The 911's RE overkill 'Bandaid' stuff (IE AWS)!? Probably Not!
The Nissan GTR's AWD vs the track tires; simply easier - evolving (ME simply easier)
OTHER CARS GETS IT DONE FROM WAY BACK!

Safety Car
With the exception of the Corvette and its race-compound tires, the 458 was the fastest car around Laguna Seca.

Two generations of Corvette will not be produced simultaneously. The ME will be similarly different to Corvette C7 as Ford GT is to Ford Mustang. Corvette C8 will continue the FE heritage at Corvette pricing and performance once the C7 ends production. The ME slots into another owner demographic that has the income to purchase a car starting at $150k and there will be no 'base' model as commonly referred to here. The big MSRP difference will come packaged similar to Porsche GT2 vs GT3 with options available on both however no 1LZ, 2LZ, 3LZ type packages for the upscale ME...that's not how these type cars are offered.
GM showed just enough slight of hand to dealers to keep publicity at full song. The world is watching with eyes wide open and grasping at straws for actual facts. I don't know anything except that I will be surprised.

Any auto manufacturer in the 21st century who wishes to cater to such a small market, has to make money doing something else, like building SUV's, LOL.
Of course, once that starts, wise guys like me will ask the Board why are they building these esoteric cars when they can make much more money using the same labor force and floor space on the SUV's. Even Ferrari is looking at SUV's for Chrissakes. Stockholder's are like that.

I just left the General Session presentation by GM/Chevy at the "Find New Roads" Dealer's Conference at Mandalay Bay, Las Vegas. We got a glimpse of the C8 Corvette. It is coming. GM called it a super car. The 2 pictures we saw showed very little, but I'm thrilled to share I caught a glimpse of the production car. It definitely looked mid-engined. The front hood reminded me of a lotus. Front bumper cover reminded me of the 2019 ZR1. Time to go party at the reception. If I bump into Brian Sweeny, US VP of Chevy, or other GM Execs, I will ask some questions and report back!
