IF, and the word is IF, GM was going to make a jump to a twin turbo v6, the ME would be the perfect platform to release it in and this would be the perfect time.
I really don't think the heads at GM really care what the members of this forum think due to the average ages. They need a new design that appeals to the young, the "Fast and Furious" crowd. They need a vehicle to target Generation X and the Millenials, not us baby boomers.

I disagree with that characterization that GM only cares the young, Fast and Furious crown. Wait until sales analysis at the end of the first three years are over, and they will show that:
While GM succeeded in attracting more young people to buy the new Corvette, the majority of individuals who bought a year 1-3 ME were those who had earlier bought a Corvette, and mostly were/are of 50+ years of age.
Back to the OP’s thread, in which he postulates his “funny feeling” (his self description) that we are getting a six cylinder ME Corvette because that is what he heard, has anyone on this thread supporting the six cylinder proposal yet given us a single fact supporting that postulation.

They do read the forum at GM. They better damn well not have their heads in the sand.
I own both a C7 and Cadillac ATS-V which has a twin turbo DOHC V6 and believe me, it could get the job done in the ME. This engine can make enough power that most people would soon forget about the 6.2L N/A V8. The guys over at the ATS-V forum as posting some pretty impressive numbers. It may also be easier for the V6 to meet emissions and MPG regulations not to mention packaging in the back of the ME.
However, it will never sound as nice as a big V8 as a fact.
While I would prefer a big V8 personally, I am mentally prepared for the base engine to be a version of the Cadillac ATS-V twin-turbo DOHC V6 to keep the price down and offer multiple engines options.

No to worry; for no V6 in any form in our 2020 ME.

I'm pretty sure all of the engine variants in the C8's will be V8's. I would never buy a V6TT Corvette, however. I would prefer an NA V8 myself, but we'll see what happens. I purchased a 2016 M3 with a TT I6 thinking it would be as exciting as the older V8 M3 because it had more power/torque. I hated that car. Riding the boost wave and trying to modulate half throttle sucks. The powertrain feels like it's attached to an erratic rubber band. I'm a younger guy and I have fallen in love with the past 3 generations of Corvettes over the past several years. Good chassis, NA V8, and a good gear box is all I want. If they can deliver that I'm in.

Not going to happen. His source, or funny feeling, is not accurate.
Car and Driver has it right. It is what I stated over a month ago. I got my information from someone on the team (at large) working on the drive train for the C8R and C8 Production Vehicles.

When does the high hp variant launch? Second year? Third year?

Yes it will be a V8, and it will be either an LT1 with extra power (500 HP minimum), or a very similar development-variant of the LT1.

Why a v6 ..lets have a four cylinder...
Kidding of course
I'd like to see a 6.5 liter LT1 derivative...making 500 hp or 496
Their will be no turbo v6 in corvette...
Give it to Cadillac if it's even on the docket anymore since JDN got the boot.

I was told they are still working on the transmission for the high hp variant. It has enough horsepower/torque to cause issue with the duel clutch transmission they are using.
My guess would be second year.
The middle hp variant should be out in the first year, but maybe not available from the on set.
The base hp variant will be a LT1 (LS style motor) with over 500 hp.

Wouldn't rule out a V6. Going mid-engine is a huge change of concept which allows GM to raise the price as well as put a completely different engine in there while also adding hybrid drive. Why stay traditional on those things when you're breaking with tradition anyway? It's not like the corvette can be considered an affordable car in its current generation, unless you're comparing to even less affordable cars. I'm still expecting it to be priced to compete with the Porsche Cayman if those interested are lucky, Audi R8 levels seem more likely. Possibly a V6 version could sit at current Z06 pricing with a V8 version higher up

The age demographic is WAY over played here. Corvette owners have ALWAYS been older....kids through college, house paid for, etc. Toyota would LOVE for the Camry (yes, the Camry. #1 car sales wise in the U.S) to appeal to YOUNGER buyers (median age of a Camry buyer is 58 years old). But they'll take the 300,000+ Camrys sold each year and worry about it some other time.
