What am I missing here?
Camera for rear view mirror..certainly not a back up camera

I, for one, like an open discussion of what something will be, or become. I also like an open discussion of what already exists. After all, we still live in a country where open discussion is neither a crime, nor will someone arrest you, right?

If I get tired of reading a post, or thread I know what to do: stop. That's not so difficult to do. And it beats the alternative which is not to have the chance to read something or some other voice or opinion. That exists in other places all over the world.

I think 95% of non-believers will come to admire the C8 once they experience one for themselves. This is obviously a huge change for the Corvette lineage, and many people don't like change. People were skeptical about the C7 due to its design, but it seems that most people like it now. The C8 will obviously be a much greater change than the C7 was, and its configuration may deter many potential customers like Joe. GM is simply doing what's best for the Corvette and their business. I bet that for every customer lost from the C8, GM will gain two.

When I return from a reveal, I volunteer and make presentations to Corvette clubs as far as 200 miles away. When the C7 came out, there was a pattern of those in the audience, that 30% said they did not like it. I responded each time that I understood, suggesting that however when they walked around it, that that percentage would drop to about 10%. Many of the 30% doubted that, but even now years later, I get folks at Corvette shows saying, “I remember when you came and made the original C7 presentation to my club; I was one of those who doubted you when you said that when I walked around the car, I would really like it, well, I love my C7 now.” I will bet that I have heard that about 100 times over the past five years.

I expect the same but different percentages for the ME, with 50% not initially liking it based on pictures and a full 20-25% not ever liking it. That is fine with me, and as Quinten33, noted, the ME is going to be a massive change to the proportions were have loved for seven decades.

As to AO Road’s post, I too like difference of opinion, comparing and contrasting past, present and future, but my liking is a fair an accurate representation of the past, a fair and accurate representation of the present, and a fair and accurate representation of the future — for nothing is all black and white, everything has its pros and cons.

Bye Joe, you have in the past been a source of some constructive information. I used to learn from many of your posts, but the last few months you have become a constant negative on your posts, glorifying the past while attacking almost everything — especially the ME.

This is not an “age thing” for you and I are about the same age, but you have now become extinct to me, as I just added you to my ignore list.
I am not as fair minded as you, he was on my list long ago.

i for one would like to see your presentation, as I have no connections or inside info on any of this. What part of the PNW are you in? Do you mind me asking how you have such great information (employee, source)?

To use your point which I've bolded, you are exactly right---there are very few absolutes, even measurements for real things like cars. Ex. There may be a specification for a measurement but there are enough examples that vary from the spec. So, your "fair and accurate representation" can become a matter of opinion and conjecture.

And as to the future, after all, not one of "us" in this audience has a solid, concrete, "representation of the future" of Corvettes---altho we do know "what we think we know."

I live in Oregon.I will happily again return to parts of Washington to make presentations. As you are a moderate way away from me, as I never have known a Corvette club that does not welcome guests, you could drop in a club presentation closest to where you live (splitting the distance). I do love to drive and love the road, so perhaps I might do one in Tacoma or Seattle.

Please PM me.

It's interesting to note the resemblance of the new Portofino's optional forged wheel to one of the ME's designs.

Sure do not want to clean either one. Hope we are offered carbon-ceramic brakes even on the first year entry ME to most eliminate brake dust.

The reality is this car is going to be a giant killer. The looks might be polarizing to some, but the performance/ reliability equation is going to be off the charts.

I think us 'normal' guys are going to be able to own a true to life Supercar 2 years from now. This car is going to outperform by a mile all the Supercars that I had on posters on my walls when I was growing up and most of the ones as a grown up I see in the magazines.

When you see something a lot, it eventually begins to appear more pedestrian and in time we will all be use to the looks of the C8 and not consider it all that exotic. But in reality it is, just at a price that allows tens of thousands of Americans annually to buy and enjoy one, like a childhood dream.

USA! USA! USA!

Exactly. When I first started to see Corvettes on the road, our family had little, were driving a stripped 140 HP, 1956 Chevy. Later in high school, two of the richest kids in my class got new Stingrays for their 16th birthday.

My dream was someday to have a car that would run 0-60 in six seconds (the norm for Corvettes then). It was mere fantasy that I would ever get a exotic car.

That fantasy becomes real about next September for me and many thousands more.

If GM is smart, once the corvette moves to the rear mid engine layout as in the c8...the GM designers should take the alpha platform camaro and restyle it to look like the portifino...

That Ferrari front engine tight 2 plus 2 is also one smoking design.

What’s truly amazing is the the higher end variations of the sixth gen camaro perform a sports well if not better than the $200 grand portifino....

I’d suggest the camaro designers will be free to more aggressively style the camaro once the corvette goes rear mid engine.

I know I’m off topic....but even as cool as the sixth gen camaro is...many consumers are tired of the retro design language dating back to 1967...

It’s attractive but it’s not pulling in enough consumers these days especially as the sixth gen redesign was evolutionary ..

It ll be interesting to see if GM has the guts to move to such a daring design language as the portifino....

Sorry for going off topic....would be cool and I don’t be hard pressed to decide which to buy...

Probably the rear mid engine c8 as many of us have been hearing about this rear mid engine corvette for over 40 years...

And it’ll be tearing up the status quo from ultra exotics like mclaren Ferrari and Lamborghini....

I did enjoy seeing that portifino photo in this thread reminding me of what GM designers will be more apt to do with the camaro 7 th gen once corvette goes to rear mid engine...

I could only wish that the new Vette will look as good as this!!!

If it does GM won't be able to.meet the demand for a long time to come at least a 2 or 3 years if it's priced similar to compareable C7 model plus 10k

Doesn't look one bit like a Vette. Maybe the nose is shark like but the rest is poor even for Ferrari standards.
