Predictions on rear storage
One thing that’s awesome about recent generations is that the Corvette is practical for a sports car.
We know the C8 will probably have a front trunk (frunk?), but what about storage behind the driver? At first I was thinking Chevy could sneak in a rear trunk like the original NSX - or current C7 convertible I suppose - but I wonder what other options are out there?
Got me thinking, maybe they’ll do something like the 720S - you keep the sleek fastback design, and get a little practicality, AND you get the engine peaking out a bit.

My guess is zero storage in the rear if it's an ME. Let's see how wrong I can be.

Rear storage should be available, based of the rear widow profile and CAD drawings. The engines sit very low in the car and most of the cooling hardware is up front, which makes it seem like they're trying to make room for rear storage. This might also be ONE reason why the LT7 doesn't have a "Hot-V" turbo setup. They're mounted down low to save space, lower the center of mass, and they may be too big to fit between the cylinder banks. I also expect storage behind the seats like the Huracan and some minimal frunk space.

All I care about is that there's room for a couple 'soft sided' carry-on type bags for road trips. Every Corvette 'vert' since our C5 has had less and less storage space so we have learned to pack less. I fully expect that the C8 will have less storage space than our C7 'vert'.... but more than our Ferrari or Aston Martin (which has just about enough room to bring home the Sunday New York Times.

Sport cars can be defined as room for 2 plus an envelope.
Adding a duffle bag or briefcase is a bonus and the C8 I predict will allow this in the front truck.
Trip/ traveling luggage may not be included. Yet perhaps odds are one will get the desire of a cup plus phone holder in the driver compartment, plus a glove box and door cubbies.
As for a parcel shelf behind the seats....maybe....I guess a lead to this would be in the spy photos.

On the McLaren 570, there is a small rear area behind the seat, where some smaller items could be put, but on the gorgeous one I saw in SEMA, that area is leather lined (and the leather is about 20X better than on our 3 level interiors), so not sure anything would be put there by owners without first a towel or other protective measure).

If there is a rear cargo area, I believe it will be very shallow, primarily to hold a targa top(or a thin clothes bag) and will be a lift out molded plastic tray(with weather striping to the engine compartment below) to access the top of the engine, etc.
The CAD drawings show a front trunk that is forward of the shock towers, but it does not appear wide enough to hold a targa top, and I predict the front trunk will be around 7 to 8 cu ft, max.
The FE Vantage has 10.6 cu ft in it's rear trunk. The FE AMG GT coupe has 10 cu ft in it's rear trunk and the roadster has 6 cu ft in it's rear trunk.
The mid engine 520s has 5 cu ft and the rear engine 911 has 5 cu ft and the mid engine NSX has 4 cu ft. The mid engine Porsche 718 doesn't even count as it has a small 4 banger boxer engine that has very little height, thus can have a rear trunk over the engine.
The FE C5/C6/C7 is still the winner in trunk area.

I have no idea where a targa roof would be stowed unless it folds in half, or it goes in a bag in your garage and you takes your chances with the weather !

I don't think there is even a rear hatch. I think the space behind the vertical rear window is a flat engine cover with left and right buttresses, like the Ferrari 246 Dino, the Ferrari Testarossa (the boxer 12 version) and the early Corvette C3 Mako Shark. I could be wrong but the burka covers seem to sag across the area where a hatch would be.

The top engine access panel could be between the buttress between the vertical rear window and the rear fascia. It would be relatively narrow but long and possibly could hold a targa top if the targa top was rotated 90 degrees and be placed in a removable(to allow easy access to the engine from the top) tray sitting above the engine/transaxle. The targa top doesn't' have to be stored in the rear in a transverse position like the C5, C6 and C7 does.
The nice thing about Whipple's is they are very efficient (up to 80%) so they require much less charge cooling than a Eaton Roots blower, (the impeller's don't touch each other on a Whipple). Hence an easy 600-700 HP for about $5k expenditure on a base C8.

I hope you are right, Joe, but for a different reason. IF they allow enough space between the underside of the access cover and the top of the engine for a targa top, THEN there will be enough space to install a Whipple twin-screw supercharger in the same volume on an LT1 engine.
The nice thing about Whipple's is they are very efficient (up to 80%) so they require much less charge cooling than a Eaton Roots blower, (the impeller's don't touch each other on a Whipple). Hence an easy 600-700 HP for about $5k expenditure on a base C8.

Maybe, but maybe not. I doubt you will get the TT setup on any small block V-8, but it could be standard on the new DOHC engines. As far as weight goes, the Whipple weighs about 25 lb.s more than the Eaton 1.9L unit but has 2.9L of flow volume. It has been designed to fit in the same space as the LT4 unit. On an LT1 it makes over 550 HP or about 630+ st the crank with no other changes. If you add port fuel injection, it can make more - this is an option Whipple offers.
My guess is you’d have go to the 5.5 L DOHC TT to beat this at a much higher cost.
