This is another roof possibility. Look specifically at the size of the roof panel just past the b-pillar.

I really hope not, since the end result might as well be a targa. I want a convertible/spider, not that thing.

Who knows? Maybe we'll get both. A spyder with skinny buttresses, and a powered targa.

I agree. that is just adding more weight/complexity for the same result you can get with a targa top.

Renault shows it can be done simply and cheaply.

The shape of the roof segments on the 458 Spyder is closer to what we've seen in the GM test cars.

No. The C3 was a T-top, the C4 on have been Targas (or convertibles) with some fixed roof coupes also (C5 FRC and Z06, C6 Z06/ZR1).

I PRAY it's not that...
If that is the "convertible" path on the C8, I really will have to start looking at other marques. I think the MX-5 RF is about as clunky looking as it can be and I am a fan of Mazda in general. But, they got this way wrong, IMO.

How about this Ferrari version (though this is the older 458). Expect the Corvette ME to operate a lot like this.

After 53 coupes in a row, the HT convertible ME Corvette will break the mold for us.

I like that top and have posted the video about three times here on the forum. The roof joints on the mule and the buttresses are also consistent with that style of top. I'm just wondering if that kind of thing is really patentable, and if so what would the patent relate to?

There's a note attached to the video:
The new Ferrari 458 Spider joins the 458 Italia, widening the range of Ferrari's mid-rear engined V8s and offering the same uncompromising technological solutions, handling and performance in a refined open-top configuration. It is equipped with a Ferrari patented, fully retractable hard top, a world first for a sports car with this lay-out.

Patented or not, others have done similarly it — though I am sure with some changes to avoid getting into patent trouble. Here’s the McLaren HT ‘vert in action (55 sec video).

Logic would have the retractable roof like the mclaren or Ferrari...with it laying under the rear buttress. I believe the top could go behind the seats in automation.

The manual targa roof should put the targa top in the front trunk.

The weight penalty for the retractable roof should be minimal in the area of 130 lbs .

To me as the years passed..I’ve found that now on my 19 th or 20 th year of corvette ownership where in the begining...I rarely took the targa off to now where it stays off all of summer , most of spring and fall..

I’ll never own a solid roof coupe again...got to be a targa....the driving experience with the roof is awesome. Exhaust open...roof off...the best ...
