Default C8 Exhaust Sound

Perhaps this should be in the C8 Forum section, ok if the moderators decide so. However, as a current C7 owner, I found this interesting, and possibly a factor in deciding whether or not I'll upgrade to the C8 when it comes out.

The short video at this link is purported to be the exhaust sound of the new C8 (body camouflaged).

I must say, I love the tone!

It doesn't sound all that much different than the C7 NPP exhaust.

I have NPP (& Z51). It does not sound like that to me.

Yes, it should be in the C8 forum.

We don't know what mode he is in, so I wouldn't call that sound definitive. I'm guessing he's in Tour myself just s as not to attract attention.

The base C8 is rumored to have the same LT1 engine as the current Stingray. An optional DOHC 5.5L V8 is supposed to be the optional engine. If this mule has the LT1 I would think it would sound close to the C7 unless the exhaust system has been engineered for a different sound.

180 degree headers would give a V8 high pitch sound .
Wonder if that is something being tested.

It DOES seem to sound different than the pushrod.
However, I'm not a good judge because I drive in Sport Mode all the time.

Is this the flat crank engine that has been rumored?

This does not have a muscular, meaty sound that would be expected from a 6.2L V8.

It would be different as the exhaust path is substantially reduced being a mid engine

Those are some real quick, low RPM shifts.

Makes you wonder how many gears that DCT has. Of course he is just barely touching the throttle.

That typically improves the sound. The exhaust pipes are short enough to not create low frequency resonances or drone.

Here are some V8 engines with really short exhaust systems. If you like the Chevy V8 sound, you'll like this video. Skip ahead to 6:00. If the Corvette group could capture even 25% of the tone for the C8 (obviously not the loudness), I would be happy.

I speculate the quick shifts are by design to disguise exactly what we are trying to discern, OHV pushrod V8 or DOHC V8. We'll not likely hear the ME driven in anger until testing at Nurburgring.

I hope it sounds more like an F1 car (smooth, refined, high pitch) rather than a pickup truck.
