What Will The ME’s Optional HT Convertible Cost?
As we know, GM used to charge $5K extra for the convertible, but lowered it to $4K the last few years. What do you think the 2020 ME’s HT convertible option would cost?
All pricing below is based on a strict comparison of MSRP’s for the coupe versus the HT convertible, i.e., there is no “pricing adjustment factor” if, for example the HT spyder for a model automatically receives an upgraded interior, extra exterior CF and/or any other “increment” that is standard on the spyder version but not on the coupe. All that is below is strictly a coupe MSRP vs. HT convertible MSRP price increase.
First, some possibly related info...
Mazda Miata = + $6,615 for the RF
McLaren 570S = + $20,200
Lambo Huracan S= + $24,850
Ferrari 488 GTB Spyder = $27,700
1) $5,000-$5,999
2) $6,000-$7,499
3) $7,500-$9,999
4) $10,000-$12,499
5) $12,500+

Considering the C7 convertible (in any form) is $4,000 more than the like coupe, it's got to be higher than that.

Usually Ferrari is at a 3 to 1 ratio of option costs to the Corvette. Porsche is at a 2 to 1 ratio typically. That puts this around 8k to 10k. A folding hardtop is definitely much more than a soft top. Porsche's soft top on their 911 is around 13K.

My concern is primarily not the price (within reason) but if they do a stutter step production process, for example holding off HT production several months. We who would want one, would all hate first the decision, the “do I wait more three months at an incremental $7,750 cost” (my guess), or do I buy a coupe now, and then for all who choose to wait for the HT, each day of those three months, seeing coupes arriving here and there, becomes like a week (each week like a month long).
Would it not be nice if they were made at the same time, right from the beginning!

I would think 10 to 16k because of the complexity and cost to design an ME convertible.
Off Topic: Crazy talk
My ? are we sure they will have a convertible instead of just having a removable top and an electric back glass that goes up/down? A convertible creates a lot of design challenges since the roof needs to be tucked over half the motor. We know many ME exotic convertibles have a back glass that lowers (McLaren 570S Spider) Since the Corvette has always had a removable top & 95% of the ME’s on the planet don't, it sure would be easy just to offer a rear glass that moves up and down. By doing this and having the roof off while the rear glass is in the down position you are accomplishing 95% of open space other than manually removing the roof. I know they would like to have the convertible to gain more customers. My problem with an ME convertible, the closed roof always hides the beautiful motor in the rear glass.

I’m the eternal optimist..I’ll say five grand..
You guys also said the c8 would be over a hundred grand...
If there is a manual targa I’ll get that...I don’t mind as it keeps me young...
Either way I will definitely get a removable roof and if it’s a solid roof then no matter what it costs I’ll get that ..
One of the reasons I enjoy my corvettes over the years is that fun in the sun driving experience...
Power or not...that doesn’t matter to me ...just give me the ability to have the roof come off,,
(@ll Kidding aside...it’s probably 7000 grand tops for the c8 if it’s a folding hard top...
The German company bmw which is usually has higher per option cost than GM charges around 9 grand more for a folding convertible on the 4series than it does for the coupe..
You can see for yourself switching from convertible to coupe on the 4 series link

Just a guess...

Bikerjulio, I hope you are right. Is your post based on inside knowledge, faith in GM’s past convertible systems, or just a feeling? If inside info, I will ask no more.
Perhaps the reason why Mazda needs $6,615 for their HT convertible is that Mazda is so small and with just fractional Miata RF sales compared to the upcoming 2020 Corvette HT convertible, Mazda’s development/tooling costs will be spread over far lesser units.
I hope and am more included to believe that option 1, $5,000-$5,999, would well be correct.

No inside knowledge. Just throwing out an educated guess. Unlike some, I don't see the Ferrari-style folding hardtop as any more difficult or expensive to achieve than the current folding convertible roof. That's all.
