Even non Corvette cars have had the hood hinged at the front in the past. My mother's new 1957 Mercury had the hood hinged at the front as did my 1957 Ford Convertible.
The picture seems to prove that at least part of that hood is hinged bellow the windshield .

I think the photo is clear as to where the hood is hinged(at the rear). My point was that for the past 65 years the "conventional" hood opening on the Corvette was with the hinges at the front, thus the mid engine hood opening at the front is "unconventional" as far as Corvettes go.

Of course,it would be very unconventional for a Corvette....But very conventional for a “frunk” car,
which is what was stated in my post.

Not until I see a poll on it. Nothing is "official" until a poll is done.

Maybe the driver pulled up next to the pump to check the price to see if it's cheaper than the station across the street, and then the car stalled and wouldn't start and he ran the battery down.

BTW, doesn't GM recommend using Top Tier gas. Is that station(Race Trac) a Top Tier gas station? Maybe GM needs to beg the governor for gas money so they can afford Top Tier gas for their 'premier' car. Hey, it worked for new office furniture at Cadillac

With their dress code it appears that they are trying to pass themselves off as your typical tourists from Michigan, hoping that no one will notice the car, with it's crazy paint job.

The ME looks so low in height. If anyone is near the gas station, perhaps could please measure the Race Trac pump and give us a rough height measurement.

I hope that it is no lower than my C6 Z06. I've had to get out of my car at some highway tollbooths as I couldn't reach up high enough to get the automated dispensed ticket so the damn gate would raise.

Maybe they don't have toll booths on a race track, but they sure do in real life on the street.

Also I use the drive thru at my bank. Same thing there.

Three observations from this thread are conclusive. The front hood is hinged at the back to allow easy access to the frunk storage cavity. The battery(hopefully lithium Ion option) is at the front of car for ease of jumpstart and weight management of location. The fuel door is where it should be on the driver side for optimal ease of positioning car to gas island curbing. The one photo shows the guy holding the hood up with his right hand while his left hand is resting on the edge of the frunk cavity. Clearly a fair distance from the side of the car(Golf clubs will never fit in frunk either way). And finally the frunk will most likely have a set of optimized soft luggage fitted to the cavity shape. Soft luggage is still more flexible than stiffer Leather luggage or hard surface luggage.

Plus 1 ...
I hope it’s not lower then my C7,

I’ll be there by the end of the month,I’ll take a look.
it will be hard to tell the measurements ,depends on camera angle, distance from the pumps etc...
The 2019 Silverado hood seems like a good reference .
To myself, from other spy pictures ,
it seems maybe a little taller then the C7(half to one inch)

IF the battery is located up front I hope it's accessible. Not sure about the Ferrari 458 and 488 but the 360 and 430 have their batteries located behind the foot rest panel on the passenger side (LHD cars) and you have to remove the battery through the passenger door once you get the tie downs off.

You guys are a bunch of nutters for the C8. I love it!

The only one to win a cookie is Elegant with trying to get a fix on roof height from the gas pump reference. Right on.

He earns double extra mega points for having 666 thanks.

Someone had asked for a link. I couldn't figure out how to link to a specific post on FB. Join Sloppy Mechanics... you will be glad you did... and do the scroll.

To the guy asking about ride height due to issues reaching highway tolls... what state in this country does not have EZ-Pass. Or are you praying the car comes with scissor doors like the WT folks do to the C5s nowadays?

My most pertinent thought on the car is along a similar veign to Elegant's regarding ride height. I know many owners who are of an age or physical condition where it is neither easy, nor convenient to enter or exit various year corvettes due to their being low (or lowered) and the dimensions to get in the door without destroying the side bolsters. This super low vette will almost necessitate a pneumatic suspension to facilitate the aged or corpulent buyer in gaining entry. It will, of course, be marketed as a system intended "to adapt for clearance issues with speed bumps."

I think the car looks mean already and can't wait for the full reveal. I'm certain it will outshine the C7s, which my personal sense of taste simply does not appreciate. I am super curious about drivetrain. Mid/Rear? Mid/Hybrid/AWD? MId/Hybrid/Rear? True manual? Paddles only? A truly GOOD paddle shift?

My only "negative" thought on the car is this: is it right to call a mid-engine car the next evolution of the Corvette? Should it be its own model? It will represent the name Corvette strongly if it is the C8, yes, but with such a break in design and... presumably... moving the price point out of reach of the common Corvette owner... will it still really be a Corvette?

Is the Corvette no longer to be the everyman's sports car? Or has there been some magic created which keeps a mid-engine sports car attainable for the everyman?

Crossed drilled rotors on this IVER. Have we seen this on earlier sightings?

Here’s a few height comparison pictures that might be useful. I am looking for the ME in the wild video (around the end of March/beginning of April) that had a ME tucked behind a GM pickup. I was surmising then that the ME looked “dwarfed” becuase it was GM’s medium duty pickup in front of it. Now, I am not so sure. Can anyone please link that video?

Elegant. A easy solution will be to do the Ratio and Proportion theorem that we played with prior on the wheelbase measurements. I'll get right on that.
