Default Was it this crazy before the C7? What does this mean for the C8?

It seems to me there wasn't this much speculation and craziness before the C7 so I was wondering what do all these post and wild speculation mean?

Are people extra interested because of the mid-engine or are there other reasons?

Thanks

I think it's due to ME, Turbo's , and DCT actually being a realistic possibility after SO many years of speculation.

C7 and past generations were "merely" just an evolution of the Corvette, while the C8 is speculated to be a revolution of the car.

Who is speculating and isn't it only revolutionary if it is a significant performance increase?

Performance data we don't have with an engine which is reported from mild to wild and speculation about front wheel drive.

Is there any real evidence of a hybrid front wheel drive?

Are we just trying to put into this car everything possible and will most be disappointed when Chevy puts out real info, unless this car has everything as an option?

The taillights got a lot of people up in arms. Still does, in fact.

I remember the Jalopnik rendering, i hated it!

Love my C7 though

I was gonna say, C7 reveal and C6 reveal both had a LOT of forum action. Could be slightly more with the C8 but it's always a bit of pandemonium

Since I was of driving age every new generation was rumored to be ME. It looks like it will really happen this time. Couple this with The fact that some think this will be a high dollar supercar with only an automatic trans and there is tons of controversy.

It seems to me that changing from FE to ME would, to most reasonable people, be considered revolutionary from both an engineering and design standpoint.

Exactly!, C7 run up was way crazy for sure, but there weren't as many speculative renders and such because Jalopnik dropped an official leaked view render more than a year before the actual reveal.

A new whole page was generated with new topics every 24h in 2012-2013 prior to C7 unveiling. Actually the exterior design was almost out after confirmed leak at that time makes no one interested to do a new rendering.
To be honest I feel disappointed about how people are active in C8 sections. I remember I was checking the C7 section twice a day in 2013. Now once a week and I can’t find good topics!.
Is this observation going to be an indicator for the size of sales?

Lot of folks are not so focused as we, but the second GM releases its first teaser video, shares the 2020 ME’s motor, or the new emblem (all done months during the pre-C7 reveal), many Rip Van Winkle’s will arise, as they do immediately prior to the actual reveal, and then “Katie bar the door.”

This. I don't know if it will be equal or more with ME, but the lead up to the C7 got pretty active. Boy, that seems like just yesterday. How time flies.

I bet we see something similar with this rig.

Was the C7 chatter over the same period or is the C8 stuff just going longer?

It went on for a while - intensified as elegant mentioned by the intentional teasers from GM. But, somewhat like the ZERV leak we've seen on the ME, there was an unauthorized leak on the C7 that pretty much blew the covers off - and that happened with a good deal of lead time left prior to the official reveal.

You are correct, the C6 reveal was controversial because they did the "unthinkable" and did away with pop up headlights

The big rumor that was supposedly verified was that the C7 was a 4 seater which having a newborn at the time made the car a realistic proposition for me at the time. I even argued for a built in baby seat option between and behind the seats up high for those with just 1 infant. Like 'Goose' in Top Gun or something.

Sometimes the heart wants something so badly, that the brain doesn't think clearly. I see a LOT of this occurring around here.

For the record, the only thing really shocking about the C7 was the tail-lights, that as a new Corvette guy, I briefly thought were cool. Turns out the old farts were dead right, the C7 taillights still suck terribly to this day. Hell they've gotten worse looking with time!

Absolutely this 100% !!

The Corvette has always been a FE platform. Moving to a ME platform involves or causes a complete or dramatic change...which is by definition... revolutionary.

A Volkswagen Beetle clone C8 would bring many words to mind but revolutionary would not be one from me.
