Manual a thing of the past?

Like I said earlier my hopes for a manual are waning. But the fact the next 911 will have one give me (some) hope.

I have had 6 corvettes. When I see all of the c8 videos they are all automatic. I love the 3rd pedal. I will buy a c8 if there is a manual but if they are all going to be automatic I will keep my c7!! Thanks jjj

Its entirely possible the launch vehicles will be dct only so hurry up and buy a c7 z06 or zr1 if you want a manual...and gm doesnt even have to say it out loud..the internet is saying it for them.
clearly anyone running a business would cater to 23percent of its customer base desires as would suppliers be more than happy to assist gm in meeting the desires of 23 percent of its customer base desires..
it is entirely possible at launch it would be dct only and as sales slowed down as they eventually always do...gm would offer a manual at that point as a worst case scenerio for manual transmission lovers.
i want the dct but i state this hypothesis for those who absolutely only want a manual transmission..
gm and the corvette team will deliver...maybe not at launch but clearly the c8 will offer a manual transmission in its life chcle.
nobody walks away from 23 percent of its customer base especially not a company like GM.

Sold my R8 gated manual this year miss it and should of kept her. Question what is the take rate for manuals in the C7 lineup for 2017 & 2018 by % to sales? Is it decreasing?

Though GM would have made the call on manual or not with the older statistics as it isn't a last minute decision.

Manual transmissions account for just 2 percent of all vehicles sold in 2018, according to data from Edmunds.com. In 2006, 47 percent of new models in the U.S. were offered with automatics and manuals. Now it’s down to 20 percent and dropping sharply. For automakers it will be simpler when the manual dies,” said Ivan Drury, senior analyst at Edmunds.com. “It’s kind of a hassle for them to offer both, same with dealers. Given the market forces, it’s going to go away.”

Im hearing the C8 will only be offered in automatic......How true is this? I'm guessing it will be more accepted if its only paddle shifters...
Not like the present auto set up where you see the shift column of P R N D.......To me there is def something wrong when I see a Z06 or a ZR1 and you see P R N D.......Sacrilege......That's just me....

The shift pattern is gated with a metal aluminum plate, throw back to vintage sports cars like Ferrari and others (shifts like a conventional manual the gate makes it a little challenging shifting fast) Jay Leno had one and loved it.
Selling her was a big mistake only 699 R8 produced USA/Canada for 2009 with less than 10% total R8 manuals. Combined manual and automatic of 7364 produced from 2007 to 2015. Looking for a clean low mile 2014/2015 V10 manual replacement. 2015 was the end of the manual R8 and this generation.

And my thoughts are, maybe they don't care about 23%.of their buyers? It's a depressing thought say, on a 30,000 annual car sales to just write off 6,900 buyer/owners/repeat customers. But, maybe with very slowly-declining numbers, which are now down to 6,400 buyers, GM considers it a losing strategy to pack in the manual trans.
Or maybe it's the old refrain of, "Let's make it up with volume---more volume sales!" How to do that? Bring out a really excellent, DCT-or its equivalent trans, and possibly in the minds of some of those 23% or 21.X%, forever make the manual trans a thing of the past. Call it "conquest sales"---if the new DCT can initially "win over" say 50%, and grudgingly win over another 25% over the next couple of years.
This could be a big win for GM, and Corvette----not to have to EPA certify, crash-test certify, make plans for an ever-increasing complex manual trans and fitting it in the chassis, etc.
While it didn't work out in the long run for many, I remember when the A8 TC trans was intro'd in the C7 and went for a ride in a brand new one. It was so fast with WOT upshifts that I found it hard to believe it was a TC. Of course, then came the problems. Imagine an auto trans (of any definition) without problems, including no overheating. Maybe it'd be a big seller, eventually.
It's a gamble---but GM is a gambler at times. This may be one of those times.

Twenty three percent of sales is no laughing matter. Nobody walks away from 23 percent of a customer base.
it would be corporate suicide.
delay manual introduction at launch? Yes its entirely possible...but never to offered in the prodiction run? Not a chance.
suppliers will make this happen for corvette c8 production...
those guys, the vendors who produce manual transmissions dont walk away from the volume offered by corvette.
thats my opinion fwiw...
when demand drops into single digits then start to worry about no manual being offered by GM
