Default ME Photos from Colorado - Almost got a pic with the door open!

Excerpt and photos from CorvetteBlogger:

Several more sightings of the Mid-Engine Corvettes in Colorado confirms that an engineering team was camping out behind a Holiday Inn in the Frisco/Breckenridge area. We say camping as the only thing missing from this view of the team’s tent and heavy car covers is a campfire. Security is on guard 24/7 when the cars are parked in the lot and the yellow tape is a clear indication of the line that shall not be crossed!

Last week, two different CorvetteBlogger readers sent up their photos of the C8 Mid Engine Corvettes testing in Colorado. This first batch comes from Florida’s Village Vettes Corvette Club:

Last week a member of our club, the Village Vettes Corvette Club of The Villages, FL was traveling thru the mountains of Colorado, Frisco to be exact, and stumbled across the Corvette Mid-engine testing team. She said they were making runs up and back to Keystone, Vail, Aspen.

just to try and imagine the shape in other perspectives... fairly close.

Does the tarp sitting on the back suggest full glass hatch? Not collapsed. Or just decoy padding?

Looks like a bunch of extra padding in the center section at the back. The licence plate hole not cut big enough. Shows about 2- 21/2" padding.

It's a coupe and I'm pretty convinced that it's a sloping glass hatch on those.

That is an excellent observation! I blew it up and look how they had to bend the plate backwards at roughly a 40 degree angle to get it to fit. Sure will not be that way on the finished car, so it has to be that thickness of padding. That is our first real clue as to how much extra padding there is back there.

Bikerjulio, IMO, you get “best post of the week” honors!

A little light on the subjects. Interesting .

If real, that hole in the door looks to end high to run under the fuel fill door when closed. The curve at the open door top suggests real?

The door section contours indicate the rear fender hip and side scoop coincide in a Z shape.

I doubt that GM would be so aggressive as to put that air channel on a base model Corvette. Then again, the car really can't get more controversial for many long-time Corvette buyers, so it's possible that they're going for some level of function-over-form design. I definitely like the curves on the door; the side view of the Corvette has always been simple, but a bit of sculpture on the doors could help the design.

I hate that the engineers have to endure all the unwanted attention, regardless of what GM wants, but I do appreciate the effort put forth in getting these pictures.

I think this is the first time we've seen slotted rotors. Z51 model?????

Also they now have the red cutoff switch on the back fender. Not sure it means much.

Time to let the cat out of the bag GM.

FVS, I agree that we are looking at the correct shape for the side cove/sculpt lines. I can't imagine they would build a fake cove shape and then hide it behind a camo air box.

I am continually perplexed as to why some think the C8 will draft design pieces from the C7??? The C7 drafted basically NO design pieces of the body from the C6!!!, so why would the C8 draft from the C7? The spoiler won't come from the C7, the differential air cooling scoops won't come from the C7, .. the headlight cluster won't come from the C7 ... just sayin'

What I see is a door air scoop similar to an F355 but not as "open", and a second scoop on the rear fender ala 360 or 430.

for my renderings, I am going by best guess from CADs and our eyewitness c7pimps description. We don’t know the exact shapes or execution but we know it is a fairly good representation based on best knowledge to date.

could very well be. I have suggested the same only maybe a bit more dramatic. The only eyewitness we have described it as per the render. We will have to wait and see

Maybe because it's nearly the identical design team that did the C7? .......just sayin'

Both of these are fake claddings to hide the true nature of the concave depth of surface the door presents as air is directed into the scoops.

You don't know who the team is, .. nor do you know the team of the C6. Nothing suggests that nearly 10 year old pieces will be dragged onto the new design. ... just sayin'
