Manta Ray
Okay guys so I just wanted to put this out there and discuss what could be coming, based off whats been in front of our Faces all along... The name of this car. Some people believe this will be named the "C8 ZORA" based on beliefs that GM will name it after "Father of the Corvette" Zora Arkus Duntov. Which is honestly a Genius Name for a car like this. Some believe it will just be called "Corvette" that is it just a 8th Generation car. I seriously doubt GM would kill off the FE car and jump to something to this magnitude just like that. In my opinion were looking at 2 names. As I stated before I think it will be called the "Corvette Manta Ray" because GM filed a trademark for that name back in 2015
Now this could be a Possibility because they are going along with the "Theme" of the "Stingray" name. And I believe GM is going to resurrect the name for something this Special.
Okay Now even more Evidence pointing towards the "Ray" Theme here... "E-RAY"
That is a name that GM "Patented" also in 2015. why? well think about it, an electric Hybrid Corvette. maybe that 5.5 Twin turbo/Front electric drive 1,000 Hp Top of the line Corvette??? I believe so.I dont see any other reason GM would call it anything other than this. What do you guys think?

If they did in fact trade mark those names you could be correct.
I do not see them using the name Zora. Non enthusiasts will not get the reference.

Not a fan of "Manta Ray". It just sounds dumb. It sounds like a GM committee's thought process along the lines of, "Gee, what's another word with 'Ray'"?
It's right up there with Chevy Bolt and Chevy Volt for two different cars.
GM needs to hire a company to come up with car names, because there seems to be a severe lack of creativity over there.

I think just calling the mid engine Vette "Manta" would sound better than "Manta Ray", or calling it "Zora" would be fine too. Also, I personally don't think the Zora will be a c8, more likely it's just it's own entity.

Manta Ray already has a significant place in Corvette history along side Stingray. I remember seeing it (or a replica) in person when I was a kid. Looked like a cross between a Corvette and the Batmobile - still legendary in my mind. It wouldn't be at all inappropriate to use "Manta" or "Manta Ray" or "Mantaray" for the ME.
Zora certainly deserves all the accolades for his involvement in Corvette engineering and performance development. Not that I would mind the ME or one of its models named "Zora", but a part of me thinks it does a disservice to other legends like Harley Earl, Bill Mitchell, Larry Shinoda, Ed Cole and Dick Keinath who all had huge input on the design and engine development - and without their efforts we would not have the early generations of Corvettes as we know them today.

Manta Ray is too similar to Stingray and the new ME is a new car.
Zora sounds every bit as good as the iconic Ferrari Enzo.
First gen Z1, second gen Z2 (if the car continues) and so on...
Just my $0.02

I did a search for when they trademarked Stingray, it was Sept 1, 2010. and we all know how that worked out. Based on that I would say Manta which they registered June 23rd, 2015 is very likely, and E-Ray which was registered Dec 21, 2015.

Not really a fan of Manta, would have preferred Zora or even Mako. Two concurrent models of corvette makes sense why they re-introduced the Stingray badging.
