My 16 year old Corvette C5 Z06 can beat the Cayman S in the 1/4 mile bone stock (11.9 seconds official time). And likely keep up in the road courses too.
The Grand Sport is meant to be a touring/GT car; there are other Corvette models which are more performance oriented.
The C7 Z06, for the same or lower out the door price as the Cayman S (see the post above, MSRP literally means "suggested"...not a real world price), absolutely obliterates the Cayman S, and almost every 911. It even beats the GT3 in performance (slightly):

By the way, Autotrader numbers are meaningless. That Grand Sport for $58,146? That dealer has a $1400 doc fee on top of the price listed. $1400!!!

I can order a brand new 2019 Cayman S for under $65K. You're not getting a brand new 2019 Z06 for anywhere close to that. You'll have to drop down to a Grand Sport.

And this "official time" has been corrected for barometric pressure and temperature? And everything is factory stock, including the factory spec tires (can you even still buy those)? Let's cut through the BS. Car and Driver ran a 12.4 (corrected), and so did GM.

maybe you do so but I don’t live my life in quarter miles. In which case I would suggest a Top Fuel Dragster that doesn’t run on octane. Or for street legal, you can buy a Fiero with good tires and put a 427 engine with ZF hp8 auto. What’s the baro Pressure?
personally I have loved the Boxster/ Caymans since the ‘986 but they, even GT4, got relegated to being the ugly Porsche stepsisters of the 911.
hypocritical of me to say now: let his thread die ha.

Would you guys please let this thread die already??? I'm getting kind of annoyed with notifications on this in my email constantly... There's other more interesting CORVETTE stuff on here! 😒

The old first year teething problems are fairly rare. The JD Power surveys demonstrated that and in the case of the C7, 2014 cars seemed very reliable. I do think what happens with most marques, and Corvette is no exception, is that a basic car comes out initially, and faster and more exotic models are filled in for several years thereafter. If you buy early, you will find that more horsepower and better handling are forthcoming.

You can order a car with whatever options you want. You don't have to buy it off the lot. I never buy a car off the lot. They get used for demo drives, and sit around rotting away. If I get a new car, I want it new. The MSRP is the starting point for negotiations. You can buy Caymans for 8% off all day long, so I can buy a Cayman S for under $65. The only reason Corvettes are so cheap now is that they have been out for so long, everyone who wanted one, already has one. They are just trying to pickup some bottom feeders at this point. Go try to buy a C8 for big discounts when it comes out. Not happening.

You actually just admitted my point. The reason the Corvettes are cheaper is not under debate. The fact is you can get a Z06 for the price of a Cayman S, both brand new.
Your other discussion is just claptrap.

You Americans kill me with your car prices out there. $58 thousand for a GrandSport?? Brand new in Canada you can't even buy a base model GS for under $80 grand. People complaining the new ZR1 is over $130K... try $198K to well over $224K for a brand new ZR1 here in Canada! Hell a brand new base model Z06 is finally down to $103K compared to previous years on average $124-$150+K depending on the Z06 trim package you got.

I think the c7 1lz z06 was selling for 69 grand in the past in this site from the dealers last year before they changed the paint shop.
gm was moving the inventory.
4 grand extra for double the hp was pretty impressive.
i know i hooked up my dentist who did my first root canal in almost 60 years test drove my corvette was so enthralled he flew out to les stanford chevy in detroit and picked up a c7 grand sport for 56788...
he drove the car back to NJ and has been smiling ever since...
i think thats ten grand less than the base cayman s.
both cool rides but the vette is the better performance car on the track(referencing car and driver lightning lap) and has a higher top speed

Why does everyone keep comparing just price or 1/4-mile straight line time? Z51 and Cayman S are similar pricing and both offer nice performance.
I just think if the C8 gets a lot more expensive than the C7, you get much nicer quality and higher resale value in a Porsche. Just compare the interiors:

Also seldom mentioned but both cayman and 911 cabins/seat space are approximately 25% smaller. Cayman is downright super snug...

The best interiors in the GM line up is from their highest brand Cadillac. Does anyone think GM will produce a nicer interior than GM highest brand? It doesn’t work that way, if they do then Cadillac will have to be improved. Remember Corvette is under Chevrolet and some parts are shared across the line up to reduce cost. Porsche is a high end brand like Cadillac, which is why their interiors across their line up are very nice, plus it’s German and they just are OCD about engineering interiors. Plus don’t have cars in their line up that cost 25k like Chevrolet. I thought my C5 interior was not great and the C6 was much more improved and my Z06 C7 was the best interior any Corvette has ever had. Corvette still has more room for improvement especially with the leathers, plastics and carpets compared to the competition.
I think GM has done an incredible job with Corvette, unfortunately for those that believe it’s going to be a Halo car costing 150k plus are wrong. Could GM have a ME version above 150k MSRP sure, but not the base car.
