Question-Why would someone just not buy a Porsche?
Instead of a M/E Corvette? GM and mid engine have sort of an oil and water ring to it for me. Why not buy from a Company who has been doing M/E for decades now. No matter how pretty the Corvette M/E might be, its last cousin was a Fiero, think about it.

From a specifications standpoint, the C8 will be far superior to a Porsche.
vs 911
- mid engine vs rear engine
- more power
- wishbones instead of struts
- much better price/performance
vs Boxster/Cayman
- way more power

Safety Car
LOL. This feels like one of those "if you have to ask you don't understand" kinda question. I'll keep my C5, love it, and will get an ME when the time is right. Simply put, I dont want a Porsche, even though I respect the brand. For me Corvette is my choice, now i'm gonna be in a rock and hard spot if this car turns out to be a Caddy!! LOL

The 911 is rear engine. Not mid.
I said this in another post, but if the ME is Corvette priced, it will be my next car. If it is in 911 price territory, I am going 911.
Love Corvette, but if they ask top dollar for base, I’m out.

The new Caymen GT4 with the flat 6 and a manual would be the only Porsche I'd own that I can actually afford. And it's going to have about 385 hp, for a cost of around $120K. Maintenance is expensive and since I no longer live on the rich side of town, I'm really far from the dealer. My wife is simply too busy to be following me across town to drop off a car because I am unable to change the oil on the thing (due to engineering, not me!)
On the other hand, a C8 ME Corvette will be available with a V8 nicely optioned for around $72K, and in a year or two I'll be able to buy one with 600+ hp for about $100K. I can also change my own oil, and get the thing serviced at 2 dealerships, no less than 10 minutes from my home.
It's really a no brainer.
If the C8 ME doesn't have a manual, I'll just buy a used 2019-2020 Cayman GT4 in 3-5 years when they are more affordable.

the folks that go for the P car have a different mind set but just for the record the GT3 BTW is no sewing machine. I drove my buddies on the track recently and that car is all business. As far as the M/E pricing I hope it comes in at what many here are saying it will, because if it doesnt there are going to be a lot of hurt Vjays... I think it will be north of $75K to start, $90K well optioned but who knows.

I wanted a Porsche for many years. I had M cars, Mercedes, Corvettes, Audi’s, etc but never a Porsche. So in ‘08 I bought a lightly used 911 c4s targa. Surprisingly I didn’t like it as much as I’d hoped. The shifter was a little sloppy, it didn’t have some of the creature comforts that I’d been used to like steering wheel audio controls etc. And it was a noisy car (tires and squeaks and stuff). Would have been a great track car but that’s not how I use my cars. Traded on a new Vette and never looked back.

I am fortunate and have owned many of those brands but I am not a kool-Aide brand loyalty guy. The corvette has always interest me and i appreciate what they have been able to accomplish especially at their price points. I have owned 4 of them, 80 L82,C5 z06, C7 Z51 and Z06. Many of my Porsche and European car friends don’t get why I am interested in the corvette and don’t even know about the ME coming out. They will never convert over no matter how crazy fast or what ever the car looks like, They buy into the luxury experience and name recognition BS, that is their thing. This is another reason I feel the ME will be priced similar to the past generation cars with a modest increase.GM has to know getting into the high-end luxury market is not an easy task just look at the struggles at Cadillac The buyers expect so much at that level I guess it’s no different when you go to a high end steak house, vacation..

Both are great choices,
They’ve been going at it for over a half century.
Iconic cars
Fantastic runabouts in the city,
and great cross country cruisers.
...not to mention performance ,handling and braking capabilities.
Both are easily top 5 in the history of automobile.
Its a great feeling to have either one of those cars in your garage.

Why?, As the others have stated....the COST & the PERFORMANCE would be the first two answers to your question
