Question-Why would someone just not buy a Porsche?

It is a misnomer to think that sharks are not evolving. They are, and at about the same rate as other fishes in the sea.
What is different about sharks, is that the environment they find themselves, find that their current point of evolution is just about optimal, so selective pressures choose the same body style over and over again.

I agree. It’s a little like buying a nice wine or bourbon. If you don’t really know the product, people will always reach for the pretty bottle not knowing the better product may not have the prettiest or most striking packaging. But can’t we all relate that to women we have dated as well.....or ex wife’s 😜

So going along with the analogy; what happens when it's discovered the prettiest and striking packaging also has a better tasty content as well?

.......then you awake to learn it was only a dream😏. I will never debate that the Corvette is not one beautiful sports car as I feel very few at any cost can match it......and that’s never my counter viewpoint. I feel both the 911 and Corvette stand tall among their peers in many but different ways. It all depends in what you are looking for.

It's definitely possible to appreciate both marques.

OT a little... But srsly for the clear two Porsche dealers/affiliates who are part of keeping this thread alive, what is best year (other than new) to buy a 911 Turbo model in or what do you look 4 in a Turbo in the market (eg, miles, a particularly fault, etc.)?

This may seem weird, but I like both Porsche and Corvette. In my experience no product is ever "the best" at everything. Porsches are amazing cars, but at a price few can afford. In my view it's even more impressive that the Corvette team can deliver so much for a price that isn't entirely out of reach of the middle class, and the team does it all while under the evil eye of GM bean counters who despise the Corvette.
The Corvette finally seems to have earned the respect of post-bankruptcy GM management but it wasn't always so. In '08 the only profitable lines for GM were trucks and the Corvette, yet GM bean counters still wanted to kill off the Corvette and only federal government intervention kept the Corvette alive. If this were a movie nobody would believe it, but it's true: GM bean counters hated the Corvette so much that they wanted it dead despite it being one of their only profitable products!
To me it makes the Corvette even more badass to know that Jeuchter's team are a rogue faction inside a heartless and incompetent corporate machine.

Go back to the post where I stated that the 911 body style had not changed appreciably since the 996 debuted in 1994, and that the previous body style was essentially unchanged since 1964. Since 1964 the Corvette has seen the C2, C3, and C4; and since 1994 the C4, C5, C6 and C7, all quite distinct from one another, far more so than any of the various iterations of the 911. You couldn't slap some aero on a C4 and make it look like a C7 ZR1, could you?

The basic 911 shape has been around since the mid 60's for a good reason, there's no need to change it. Don't forget, it's the buying public that dictates change, not the manufacturer. If people were sick and tired of the 911 then they would stop buying it, clearly they're not, if this is not a prime example of the old adage "if it ain't broke then don't fix it" then I don't know what it.
Also tell me, 80's and up Corvette has a better resale value than a Porsche 911? There's a reason for this.
We bought a '13 Panamera GTS on Monday, I drove this thing and it is outstanding, solid as a tank, fast, great interior/exterior, etc. While I know it's not the same a Corvette or 911 but now I know why Porsches sell for high prices, quality, not cheap.

Nah, beg to differ here, I mean loving, enjoying an American icon. I have driven 911's, they are OK and I would really like to have a McLaren 720S, however I have been loving Corvettes (since I was 15) when I saw my first '67 427 tri-power roadster and will always be a died in the wool Corvette guy; The Only True American Sports Car. It's my perspective, may not be yours or anyone else's, and I am definitely not shallow, because of it. I just would not go out and buy a Porsche over a Corvette.

The 911 looks like a frog and it is only an evolution of the Beetle (German name Kdf Wagen) born during the WWII. Compared to a Vette, it looks like a baby car. My "Porchist" friends are impressed by the visual sensation of my Vette

Btw, we are in a used Porsche bubble market that will eventually pop. All those older Porsches were selling for close to nothing not that long ago...the Porsche hype is strong right now. My point is it's hard to predict the future resale value of current cars, so this should not factor in too much when buying a new car.
For those of you who Porsche-philes who poke fun at Corvette being owned by Chevrolet/GM, don't forget that Porsche is owned by lowly Volkswagen. The point is the Corvette design/engineering team is very autonomous and independent from what goes on in the rest of the company.
I can't believe this thread is still ongoing...I think a few Corvette owners should start a similar thread on Rennlist.com regarding the new 992 911, given the Porsche fanboy trolls that are on here keeping this thread alive.
