Instead of a M/E Corvette? GM and mid engine have sort of an oil and water ring to it for me. Why not buy from a Company who has been doing M/E for decades now. No matter how pretty the Corvette M/E might be, its last cousin was a Fiero, think about it.
I'll answer your inane question with an equally inane answer. Because.

In the end, I guess it’s about what makes you happy. My wife loves her Corvette. She won her first drag race today. LOL. I think it’s a cool car. But for a pure driving experience I like my Porsche. We aren’t trying to set lap records, just enjoying both cars.

Having said all of that, I'll likely still sell it and buy a C8 after a year or two. Porsches really hold value well (especially GT cars). Makes ownership not all that expensive. However, if the C8 is everything I hope it will be, I'll want that car if for no other reason as it will be a new experience. I hope it feels as light and nimble as the GT4 because that is one of my favourite characteristics of the car. My fear is the C8 will be a very large (aka Aventador) car... if that's the case, I may not buy it. I'm hoping GM doesn't make it a big, heavy beast but I'm optimistic they will get it right and it will be fantastic. There is little doubt the C8 will outperform a lot (most) Porsches. The only question is will it deliver as good of a "feel" and experience. I hope so. In the interim, I get a ME car today that is simply an awesome driving experience... notably better than my previous M4, M3, M2 and C7 Z51.

I agree ..... just got my first Porsche and I adore it!

It would seem to me that Porsche and Corvette guys are more closely related than one might expect, BMW has Mercedes, Ferrari has Lamborghini, Mustang has Camaro and Porsche has Corvette (except Corvette is a model name not a company. I guess you could say the 911 has Corvette, but you get the picture.....I hope).

Absolutely,I see it your way as well...
but the Corvette gets to double as the “trophy car” for muscle car aficionados ...And that is a tremendous sales advantage, especially in our continent .

If you simply care about driving experience give the Pcar a try...there is a reason they’re held in such high regard.

Folks may find this unbelievable, but I find my 2011 Spyder more “fun” to drive than my C7 despite the huge HO/TQ difference. I’ve had new Z06s in the garage continually since 2004 so no throwing rocks. In the pic below my son is driving my Z07 as we head out into the TX Hill country.

I recently bought a 991.2 GT3 manual transmission and parted ways with my 2015 Z06. I can say the GT3 with its rear NA engine is incredible. It pulls hard all the way to 9K rpm and the rear engine provides considerable rear wheel traction. The handling and suspension is phenomenal. I am waiting to see what GM does regarding the C8.. If they produce a decent mid engine Z I might jump back in. However, I will never trade in the GT3, its the very best car I have driven.

Oh god, here we go again. Thanks "nunii" for a resuscitating a tired, old thread which was already a beaten dead horse.

Maybe it's time to go on Rennlist and post an equivalent thread there?

Are Porsches pretty reliable? The two posted above look great to me, I just know that some of the problems the C7(ZO6 mostly) and my car,a C6 ZO6, have are pretty concerning because I always pictured Vettes as the most reliable and durable sports car. I hope they can really weed out any potential overheating and transmission issues right out of the gate and through the high HP models with the C8.

These cars are very reliable. Fit and finish incredible. Its my 6th 911. Waiting for the second year of the C8Z and see how things shake out.

I’m not a fan of the C7 styling, but I absolutely love the 911 4S and recently came close to dropping the $139k for the one I wanted. I stopped myself for just one reason... I couldn’t pull the trigger on a foreign car! Hell, it bugs me that if a I can’t find NOS or decent used service parts for my C2, the new ones are mostly Chinese made.

With the 911 and Corvette both new for 2020, and I’m liking what I’ve seen of both, I would choose the Corvette over the 911, primarily because the Corvette remains one of the cars with the most Ameeican made content.

I am SO jealous! If it weren't black I would make an offer. (PS It would be an offer I couldn't afford, )

porsches are over engineered if anything. Google J D Powers ratings. You will consistently find the 911 in one of the top 2 spots.

Did that include the 2000s when Porsche 911 motors self-grenaded from normal driving due to an engineering design flaw (IMS bearing issue)?

Last 4 years the 911 finished number 1 in J.D. Powers rankings. I buy new so not too concerned about 20 years ago. Sorry if it wasn’t what you wanted to hear. You must be unaware of C6 Z06 issues since they were much more recent history.
