Default Side Intakes

Any notice that the CERV III side intakes are low on the body? As are several other Vetts how/engineering cars. A lot of the renderings show high intakes or intakes that widen out at the top?

Can you post a picture of what you're referring to?

Sorry, I'm not up to speed on posting pics. Here's one of MANY sites with appropriate pics. Google images for CERV III for lots more.

The intake is small and located in the bottom half of the side. The CERV III was a running car so I'm assuming the cooling was sufficient. There are also lots of YouTube enteries under that name that show the car running.

I am not an expert but I would assume that since the CERV is a Proto type and not subject to extended use or racing performance, they were not as concerned for cooling as they may be now.

if you simply look at all of the other competitive super cars out there, Ferrari, Lamborghini, McLaren etc., they all have different ways of achieving the necessary cooling for their particular design. Some designs use one large intake, some you several smaller intakes depending on the look and performance they are after.

aesthetics are certainly one of the criteria but performance cooling I would assume is the deciding factor.

Up to 59 years of aero learning is why the intake position has moved to where we now see it in the C8.R, and where we will see it in customer 2020 Corvette MEs.

There be a lot of heat back there, and getting it out into the airflow is paramount to keeping the engine bay temperatures in check.
